ٱلْخَمْر (WINE)

أول ذكر لها (First mention of)

أول طريقة لصنعها، مشار إليها (First mode of making, notice)

تُصْنَعُ عَادَةً بِدَوْسِ ٱلْعِنَبِ فِي ٱلْمِعْصَرَةِ (Generally made by treading the grapes in a press)

تَصْفِيَتُهَا، مُشَارٌ إِلَيْهَا (Refining of, alluded to)

تَطِيبُ بِٱلْعِتْقِ (Improved by age)

أَنْوَاعٌ كَثِيرَةٌ مِنْهَا (Many kinds of)

ٱلْحُلْوَةُ (ٱلسُّلَافَةُ)، تُقَدَّرُ لِطَعْمِهَا وَقُوَّتِهَا (Sweet, esteemed for flavour and strength)

ٱلْحَمْرَاءُ، ٱلْأَكْثَرُ تَقْدِيرًا (Red, most esteemed)

كَثِيرًا مَا تُمْزَجُ بِٱلْأَطْيَابِ لِتَزْدَادَ قُوَّةً، إِلَخْ (Often spiced to increase its strength, &c)

أوائلها تقدم لله (First fruits of, to be offered to God)

مَعَ ٱلْحِنْطَةِ وَٱلزَّيْتِ، دَلَّتْ عَلَى كُلِّ ٱلْبَرَكَاتِ ٱلزَّمَنِيَّةِ (With corn and oil, denoted all temporal blessings)

تُعْطَى لِلْيَهُودِ بِكَثْرَةٍ عِنْدَ طَاعَتِهِمْ (Given in abundance to the Jews when obedient)

كَثِيرًا مَا حُرِمَ ٱلْيَهُودُ مِنْهَا عِقَابًا (The Jews frequently deprived of, as a punishment)

كَثِيرًا مَا شَرِبَ ٱلْيَهُودُ مِنْهَا إِلَى حَدِّ ٱلْإِفْرَاطِ (The Jews frequently drank, to excess)

في أوقات العوز كانت تمزج بالماء (In times of scarcity, was mixed with water)

تمزج أحيانا باللبن للشرب (Sometimes mixed with milk as a beverage)

عَادَةُ تَقْدِيمِهَا لِلْمُسَافِرِينَ (Custom of presenting to travellers)

عادة إعطائها للمتألمين والمعذبين، ممزوجة بالعقاقير (Custom of giving to persons in pain or suffering, mixed with drugs)

محرمة على الكهنة عند خدمتهم في خيمة الاجتماع (Forbidden to the priests while engaged in the tabernacle)

محرمة على النذيرين مدة انفصالهم (Forbidden to Nazarites during their separation)

ٱلرَّكَابِيُّونَ لَمْ يَشْرَبُوهَا قَطُّ (The Rechabites never drank)

تحول الماء إليها بأعجوبة (Water miraculously turned into)
