Psalms 12:2

← Psalms 12:1 Psalms 12:2 (KJV) Psalms 12:3 →
To the chief Musician upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

Strong's References
  • H376 — אִישׁ (ʼîysh, eesh): contracted for אֱנוֹשׁ (ʼĕnôwsh) H582 (or perhaps rather from an unused root meaning to be extant); a man as an individual or a male person; often used as an adjunct to a more definite term (and in such cases frequently not expressed in translation); also, another, any (man), a certain, [phrase] champion, consent, each, every (one), fellow, (foot-, husband-) man, (good-, great, mighty) man, he, high (degree), him (that is), husband, man(-kind), [phrase] none, one, people, person, [phrase] steward, what (man) soever, whoso(-ever), worthy. Compare אִשָּׁה (ʼishshâh) H802.
  • H1696 — דָבַר (dâbar, daw-bar'): a primitive root; perhaps properly, to arrange; but used figuratively (of words), to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue; answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use (entreaties), utter, [idiom] well, [idiom] work.
  • H2513 — חֶלְקָה (chelqâh, khel-kaw'): feminine of חֵלֶק (chêleq) H2506; properly, smoothness; figuratively, flattery; also an allotment; field, flattering(-ry), ground, parcel, part, piece of land (ground), plat, portion, slippery place, smooth (thing).
  • H3820 — לֵב (lêb, labe): a form of לֵבָב (lêbâb) H3824; the heart; also used (figuratively) very widely for the feelings, the will and even the intellect; likewise for the centre of anything; [phrase] care for, comfortably, consent, [idiom] considered, courag(-eous), friend(-ly), ((broken-), (hard-), (merry-), (stiff-), (stout-), double) heart(-ed), [idiom] heed, [idiom] I, kindly, midst, mind(-ed), [idiom] regard(-ed), [idiom] themselves, [idiom] unawares, understanding, [idiom] well, willingly, wisdom.
  • H7453 — רֵעַ (rêaʻ, ray'-ah): or רֵיעַ (rêyaʻ); from רָעָה (râʻâh) H7462; an associate (more or less close); brother, companion, fellow, friend, husband, lover, neighbour, [idiom] (an-) other.
  • H7723 — שָׁוְא (shâvᵉʼ, shawv): or שַׁו (shav); from the same as שׁוֹא (shôwʼ) H7722 in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), literally (ruin) or morally (especially guile); figuratively idolatry (as false, subjective), uselessness (as deceptive, objective; also adverbially, in vain); false(-ly), lie, lying, vain, vanity.
  • H8193 — שָׂפָה (sâphâh, saw-faw'): or (in dual and plural) שֶׂפֶת (sepheth); probably from סָפָה (çâphâh) H5595 or שָׁפָה (shâphâh) H8192 through the idea of termination (compare סוֹף (çôwph) H5490); the lip (as a natural boundary); by implication, language; by analogy, a margin (of a vessel, water, cloth, etc.); band, bank, binding, border, brim, brink, edge, language, lip, prating, (sea-)shore, side, speech, talk, (vain) words.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H854 — אֵת (ʼêth, ayth): probably from אָנָה (ʼânâh) H579; properly, nearness (used only as a preposition or an adverb), near; hence, generally, with, by, at, among, etc.; against, among, before, by, for, from, in(-to), (out) of, with. Often with another prepositional prefix.
