Nahum 3:1

← Nahum 2:13 Nahum 3:1 (KJV) Nahum 3:2 →
Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;
The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

Strong's References
  • H1818 — דָּם (dâm, dawm): from דָּמַם (dâmam) H1826 (compare אָדַם (ʼâdam) H119); blood (as that which when shed causes death) of man or an animal; by analogy, the juice of the grape; figuratively (especially in the plural) bloodshed (i.e. drops of blood); blood(-y, -guiltiness, (-thirsty), [phrase] innocent.
  • H1945 — הוֹי (hôwy, hoh'ee): a prolonged form of הוֹ (hôw) H1930 (akin to אוֹי (ʼôwy) H188); oh!; ah, alas, ho, O, woe.
  • H2964 — טֶרֶף (ṭereph, teh'-ref): from טָרַף (ṭâraph) H2963; something torn, i.e. a fragment, e.g. a fresh leaf, prey, food; leaf, meat, prey, spoil.

  • H4185 — מוּשׁ (mûwsh, moosh): a primitive root (perhaps rather the same as מוּשׁ (mûwsh) H4184 through the idea of receding by contact); to withdraw (both literally and figuratively, whether intransitive or transitive); cease, depart, go back, remove, take away.
  • H4392 — מָלֵא (mâlêʼ, maw-lay'): from מָלֵא (mâlêʼ) H4390; full (literally or figuratively) or filling (literally); also (concretely) fulness; adverbially, fully; [idiom] she that was with child, fill(-ed, -ed with), full(-ly), multitude, as is worth.
  • H5892 — עִיר (ʻîyr, eer): or (in the plural) עָר (ʻâr); or עָיַר (ʻâyar); (Judges 10:4), from עוּר (ʻûwr) H5782; a city (a place guarded by waking or a watch) in the widest sense (even of a mere encampment or post); Ai (from margin), city, court (from margin), town.
  • H6563 — פֶּרֶק (pereq, peh'-rek): from פָּרַק (pâraq) H6561; rapine; also a fork (in roads); crossway, robbery.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H3605 — כֹּל (kôl, kole): or (Jeremiah 33:8) כּוֹל (kôwl); from כָּלַל (kâlal) H3634; properly, the whole; hence, all, any or every (in the singular only, but often in a plural sense); (in) all (manner, (ye)), altogether, any (manner), enough, every (one, place, thing), howsoever, as many as, (no-) thing, ought, whatsoever, (the) whole, whoso(-ever).
  • H3808 — לֹא (lôʼ, lo): or לוֹא (lôwʼ); or לֹה (lôh); (Deuteronomy 3:11), a primitive particle; not (the simple or abs. negation); by implication, no; often used with other particles; [idiom] before, [phrase] or else, ere, [phrase] except, ig(-norant), much, less, nay, neither, never, no((-ne), -r, (-thing)), ([idiom] as though...,(can-), for) not (out of), of nought, otherwise, out of, [phrase] surely, [phrase] as truly as, [phrase] of a truth, [phrase] verily, for want, [phrase] whether, without.
  • H4395 — מְלֵאָה (mᵉlêʼâh, mel-ay-aw'): feminine of מָלֵא (mâlêʼ) H4392; something fulfilled, i.e. abundance (of produce); (first of ripe) fruit, fulness.
