Psalms 79:1

← Psalms 78:72 Psalms 79:1 (KJV) Psalms 79:2 →
So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.

Strong's References
  • H430 — אֱלֹהִים (ʼĕlôhîym, el-o-heem'): plural of אֱלוֹהַּ (ʼĕlôwahh) H433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative; angels, [idiom] exceeding, God (gods) (-dess, -ly), [idiom] (very) great, judges, [idiom] mighty.
  • H623 — אָסָף (ʼÂçâph, aw-sawf'): from אָסַף (ʼâçaph) H622; collector; Asaph, the name of three Israelites, and of the family of the first; Asaph.

  • H1471 — גּוֹי (gôwy, go'-ee): rarely (shortened) גֹּי (gôy); apparently from the same root as גֵּוָה (gêvâh) H1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence, a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts; Gentile, heathen, nation, people.
  • H1964 — הֵיכָל (hêykâl, hay-kawl'): probably from יָכֹל (yâkôl) H3201 (in the sense of capacity); a large public building, such as a palace or temple; palace, temple.

  • H3389 — יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם (Yᵉrûwshâlaim, yer-oo-shaw-lah'-im): rarely יְרוּשָׁלַיִם (Yᵉrûwshâlayim); a dual (in allusion to its two main hills (the true pointing, at least of the former reading, seems to be that of יְרוּשָׁלֵם (Yᵉrûwshâlêm) H3390)); probably from (the passive participle of) יָרָה (yârâh) H3384 and שָׁלַם (shâlam) H7999; founded peaceful; Jerushalaim or Jerushalem, the capital city of Palestine; Jerusalem.
  • H4210 — מִזְמוֹר (mizmôwr, miz-more'): from זָמַר (zâmar) H2167; properly, instrumental music; by implication, a poem set to notes; psalm.
  • H5159 — נַחֲלָה (nachălâh, nakh-al-aw'): from נָחַל (nâchal) H5157 (in its usual sense); properly, something inherited, i.e. (abstractly) occupancy, or (concretely) an heirloom; generally an estate, patrimony or portion; heritage, to inherit, inheritance, possession. Compare נַחַל (nachal) H5158.
  • H5856 — עִי (ʻîy, ee): from עָוָה (ʻâvâh) H5753; a ruin (as if overturned); heap.
  • H6944 — קֹדֶשׁ (qôdesh, ko'-desh): from קָדַשׁ (qâdash) H6942; a sacred place or thing; rarely abstract, sanctity; consecrated (thing), dedicated (thing), hallowed (thing), holiness, ([idiom] most) holy ([idiom] day, portion, thing), saint, sanctuary.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H853 — אֵת (ʼêth, ayth): apparent contracted from אוֹת (ʼôwth) H226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly, self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely); (as such unrepresented in English).
