Psalms 31:18

← Psalms 31:17 Psalms 31:18 (KJV) Psalms 31:19 →
Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

Strong's References
  • H481 — אָלַם (ʼâlam, aw-lam'): a primitive root; to tie fast; hence (of the mouth) to be tongue-tied; bind, be dumb, put to silence.
  • H937 — בּוּז (bûwz, booz): from בּוּז (bûwz) H936; disrespect; contempt(-uously), despised, shamed.
  • H1346 — גַּאֲוָה (gaʼăvâh, gah-av-aw'): from גָּאָה (gâʼâh) H1342; arrogance or majesty; by implication, (concretely) ornament; excellency, haughtiness, highness, pride, proudly, swelling.
  • H1696 — דָבַר (dâbar, daw-bar'): a primitive root; perhaps properly, to arrange; but used figuratively (of words), to speak; rarely (in a destructive sense) to subdue; answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use (entreaties), utter, [idiom] well, [idiom] work.
  • H6277 — עָתָק (ʻâthâq, aw-thawk'): from עָתַק (ʻâthaq) H6275 in the sense of license; impudent; arrogancy, grievous (hard) things, stiff.
  • H6662 — צַדִּיק (tsaddîyq, tsad-deek'): from צָדַק (tsâdaq) H6663; just; just, lawful, righteous (man).
  • H8193 — שָׂפָה (sâphâh, saw-faw'): or (in dual and plural) שֶׂפֶת (sepheth); probably from סָפָה (çâphâh) H5595 or שָׁפָה (shâphâh) H8192 through the idea of termination (compare סוֹף (çôwph) H5490); the lip (as a natural boundary); by implication, language; by analogy, a margin (of a vessel, water, cloth, etc.); band, bank, binding, border, brim, brink, edge, language, lip, prating, (sea-)shore, side, speech, talk, (vain) words.
  • H8267 — שֶׁקֶר (sheqer, sheh'-ker): from שָׁקַר (shâqar) H8266; an untruth; by implication, a sham (often adverbial); without a cause, deceit(-ful), false(-hood, -ly), feignedly, liar, [phrase] lie, lying, vain (thing), wrongfully.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H5921 — עַל (ʻal, al): properly, the same as עַל (ʻal) H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications; above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, [idiom] as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, [idiom] both and, by (reason of), [idiom] had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, [idiom] with.
