Romans 8:3

← Romans 8:2 Romans 8:3 (KJV) Romans 8:4 →
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Strong's References
  • G102 — ἀδύνατος (adýnatos, ad-oo'-nat-os): from Α (A) G1 (as a negative particle) and δυνατός (dynatós) G1415; unable, i.e. weak (literally or figuratively); passively, impossible; could not do, impossible, impotent, not possible, weak
  • G266 — ἁμαρτία (hamartía, ham-ar-tee'-ah): from ἁμαρτάνω (hamartánō) G264; a sin (properly abstract); offence, sin(-ful)
  • G770 — ἀσθενέω (asthenéō, as-then-eh'-o): from ἀσθενής (asthenḗs) G772; to be feeble (in any sense); be diseased, impotent folk (man), (be) sick, (be, be made) weak
  • G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles); and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet
  • G1223 — διά (diá, dee-ah'): a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional); after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) … fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.
  • G1438 — ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû, heh-ow-too'): from a reflexive pronoun otherwise obsolete and the genitive case (dative case or accusative case) of αὐτός (autós) G846; him- (her-, it-, them-, also (in conjunction with the personal pronoun of the other persons) my-, thy-, our-, your-) self (selves), etc.; alone, her (own, -self), (he) himself, his (own), itself, one (to) another, our (thine) own(-selves), + that she had, their (own, own selves), (of) them(-selves), they, thyself, you, your (own, own conceits, own selves, -selves)
  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ (ho) G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very; X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward)
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G2632 — κατακρίνω (katakrínō, kat-ak-ree'-no): from κατά (katá) G2596 and κρίνω (krínō) G2919; to judge against, i.e. sentence; condemn, damn
  • G3551 — νόμος (nómos, nom'-os): from a primary νέμω (némō) (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), genitive case (regulation), specially, (of Moses (including the volume); also of the Gospel), or figuratively (a principle); law
  • G3667 — ὁμοίωμα (homoíōma, hom-oy'-o-mah): from ὁμοιόω (homoióō) G3666; a form; abstractly, resemblance; made like to, likeness, shape, similitude
  • G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ (ho) G3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that; one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ (hoû) G3757.
  • G3992 — πέμπω (pémpō, pem'-po): apparently a primary verb; to dispatch (from the subjective view or point of departure, whereas ἵημι (híēmi) (as a stronger form of εἶμι (eîmi)) refers rather to the objective point or terminus ad quem, and στέλλω (stéllō) G4724 denotes properly, the orderly motion involved), especially on a temporary errand; also to transmit, bestow, or wield; send, thrust in
  • G4012 — περί (perí, per-ee'): from the base of πέραν (péran) G4008; properly, through (all over), i.e. around; figuratively with respect to; used in various applications, of place, cause or time (with the genitive case denoting the subject or occasion or superlative point; with the accusative case the locality, circuit, matter, circumstance or general period); (there-)about, above, against, at, on behalf of, X and his company, which concern, (as) concerning, for, X how it will go with, ((there-, where-)) of, on, over, pertaining (to), for sake, X (e-)state, (as) touching, (where-)by (in), with. In comparative, it retains substantially the same meaning of circuit (around), excess (beyond), or completeness (through).
  • G4561 — σάρξ (sárx, sarx): probably from the base of σαρόω (saróō) G4563; flesh (as stripped of the skin), i.e. (strictly) the meat of an animal (as food), or (by extension) the body (as opposed to the soul (or spirit), or as the symbol of what is external, or as the means of kindred), or (by implication) human nature (with its frailties (physically or morally) and passions), or (specially), a human being (as such); carnal(-ly, + -ly minded), flesh(-ly)
  • G5207 — υἱός (huiós, hwee-os'): apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship; child, foal, son

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
