Hebrews 12:16

← Hebrews 12:15 Hebrews 12:16 (KJV) Hebrews 12:17 →
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

  • G1035 — βρῶσις (brōsis, bro'-sis): from the base of βιβρώσκω (bibrṓskō) G977; (abstractly) eating (literally or figuratively); by extension (concretely) food (literally or figuratively); eating, food, meat

  • G2269 — Ἠσαῦ (Ēsaû, ay-sow'): of Hebrew origin (H6215); Esau, an Edomite; Esau
  • G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether; any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. • G4205 — πόρνος (pórnos, por'-nos): from πέρνημι (pérnēmi) (to sell; akin to the base of πιπράσκω (pipráskō) G4097); a (male) prostitute (as venal), i.e. (by analogy) a debauchee (libertine); fornicator, whoremonger
