Acts 15:20
| ← Acts 15:19 | Acts 15:20 (KJV) | Acts 15:21 → |
|---|---|---|
Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
|
But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
|
For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1497 — εἴδωλον (eídōlon, i'-do-lon): from εἶδος (eîdos) G1491; an image (i.e. for worship); by implication, a heathen god, or (plural) the worship of such; idol
- G1989 — ἐπιστέλλω (epistéllō, ep-ee-stel'-lo): from ἐπί (epí) G1909 and στέλλω (stéllō) G4724; to enjoin (by writing), i.e. (genitive case) to communicate by letter (for any purpose); write (a letter, unto)
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G4156 — πνικτός (pniktós, pnik-tos'): from πνίγω (pnígō) G4155; throttled, i.e. (neuter concretely) an animal choked to death (not bled); strangled
- G4202 — πορνεία (porneía, por-ni'-ah): from πορνεύω (porneúō) G4203; harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatry; fornication
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
