← 2 Kings 6:24 2 Kings 6:25 (KJV) 2 Kings 6:26 →
And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.
And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

Strong's References
  • H1419 — גָּדוֹל (gâdôwl, gaw-dole'): or גָּדֹל (gâdôl); (shortened) from גָּדַל (gâdal) H1431; great (in any sense); hence, older; also insolent; [phrase] aloud, elder(-est), [phrase] exceeding(-ly), [phrase] far, (man of) great (man, matter, thing,-er,-ness), high, long, loud, mighty, more, much, noble, proud thing, [idiom] sore, ([idiom]) very.
  • H1686 — דִּבְיוֹן (dibyôwn, dib-yone'): in the margin for the textual reading, חֶרְיוֹן (cheryôwn); both, (in the plural only and) of uncertain derivation; probably some cheap vegetable, perhaps a bulbous root; dove's dung.
  • H2543 — חֲמוֹר (chămôwr, kham-ore'): or (shortened) חֲמֹר (chămôr); from חָמַר (châmar) H2560; a male ass (from its dun red); (he) ass.
  • H2568 — חָמֵשׁ (châmêsh, khaw-maysh'): masculine חֲמִשָּׁה (chămishshâh); a primitive numeral; five; fif(-teen), fifth, five ([idiom] apiece).
  • H2755 — חֲרֵי־יוֹנִים (chărêy-yôwnîym, khar-ay'-yo-neem'): from the plural of חֶרֶא (chereʼ) H2716 and the plural of יוֹנָה (yôwnâh) H3123; or perhaps rather the plural of a single word חֲרָאיוֹן (chărâʼyôwn), probably a kind of vegetable; excrements of doves or a vegetable; doves' dung.
  • H3123 — יוֹנָה (yôwnâh, yo-naw'): probably from the same as יַיִן (yayin) H3196; a dove (apparently from the warmth of their mating); dove, pigeon.
  • H3701 — כֶּסֶף (keçeph, keh'-sef): from כָּסַף (kâçaph) H3700; silver (from its pale color); by implication, money; money, price, silver(-ling).
  • H6696 — צוּר (tsûwr, tsoor): a primitive root; to cramp, i.e. confine (in many applications, literally and figuratively, formative or hostile); adversary, assault, beset, besiege, bind (up), cast, distress, fashion, fortify, inclose, lay siege, put up in bags.
  • H6894 — קַב (qab, kab): from קָבַב (qâbab) H6895; a hollow, i.e. vessel used as a (dry) measure; cab.
  • H7218 — רֹאשׁ (rôʼsh, roshe): from an unused root apparently meaning to shake; the head (as most easily shaken), whether literal or figurative (in many applications, of place, time, rank, itc.); band, beginning, captain, chapiter, chief(-est place, man, things), company, end, [idiom] every (man), excellent, first, forefront, (be-)head, height, (on) high(-est part, (priest)), [idiom] lead, [idiom] poor, principal, ruler, sum, top.
  • H7255 — רֹבַע (rôbaʻ, ro'-bah): from רָבַע (râbaʻ) H7251; a quarter; fourth part
  • H7458 — רָעָב (râʻâb, raw-awb'): from רָעֵב (râʻêb) H7456; hunger (more or less extensive); dearth, famine, [phrase] famished, hunger.
  • H8084 — שְׁמֹנִים (shᵉmônîym, shem-o-neem'): or שְׁמוֹנִים (shᵉmôwnîym); multiple from שְׁמֹנֶה (shᵉmôneh) H8083; eighty, also eightieth; eighty(-ieth), fourscore.
  • H8111 — שֹׁמְרוֹן (Shômᵉrôwn, sho-mer-one'): from the active participle of שָׁמַר (shâmar) H8104; watch-station; Shomeron, a place in Palestine; Samaria.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H1961 — הָיָה (hâyâh, haw-yaw): a primitive root (compare הָוָא (hâvâʼ) H1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary); beacon, [idiom] altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, [phrase] follow, happen, [idiom] have, last, pertain, quit (one-) self, require, [idiom] use.

  • H5704 — עַד (ʻad, ad): properly, the same as עַד (ʻad) H5703 (used as a preposition, adverb or conjunction; especially with a preposition); as far (or long, or much) as, whether of space (even unto) or time (during, while, until) or degree (equally with); against, and, as, at, before, by (that), even (to), for(-asmuch as), (hither-) to, [phrase] how long, into, as long (much) as, (so) that, till, toward, until, when, while, ([phrase] as) yet.
  • H5921 — עַל (ʻal, al): properly, the same as עַל (ʻal) H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications; above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, [idiom] as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, [idiom] both and, by (reason of), [idiom] had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, [idiom] with.
