Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
|
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

- G444 — ἄνθρωπος (ánthrōpos, anth'-ro-pos): from ἀνήρ (anḗr) G435 and ὤψ (ṓps) (the countenance; from ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700); man-faced, i.e. a human being; certain, man
- G862 — ἄφθαρτος (áphthartos, af'-thar-tos): from Α (A) G1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of φθείρω (phtheírō) G5351; undecaying (in essence or continuance); not (in-, un-)corruptible, immortal
- G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
- G1799 — ἐνώπιον (enṓpion, en-o'-pee-on): neuter of a compound of ἐν (en) G1722 and a derivative of ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700; in the face of (literally or figuratively); before, in the presence (sight) of, to
- G2076 — ἐστί (estí, es-tee'): third person singular present indicative of εἰμί (eimí) G1510; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are; are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle
- G2272 — ἡσύχιος (hēsýchios, hay-soo'-khee-os): a prolonged form of a compound probably of a derivative of the base of ἑδραῖος (hedraîos) G1476 and perhaps ἔχω (échō) G2192; properly, keeping one's seat (sedentary), i.e. (by implication) still (undisturbed, undisturbing); peaceable, quiet
- G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ (ho) G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very; X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward)
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G2588 — καρδία (kardía, kar-dee'-ah): prolonged from a primary κάρ (kár) (Latin cor, "heart"); the heart, i.e. (figuratively) the thoughts or feelings (mind); also (by analogy) the middle; (+ broken-)heart(-ed)

- G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ (ho) G3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that; one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ (hoû) G3757.
- G4151 — πνεῦμα (pneûma, pnyoo'-mah): from πνέω (pnéō) G4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit; ghost, life, spirit(-ual, -ually), mind. Compare ψυχή (psychḗ) G5590.
- G4185 — πολυτελής (polytelḗs, pol-oo-tel-ace'): from πολύς (polýs) G4183 and τέλος (télos) G5056; extremely expensive; costly, very precious, of great price
