1 Peter 2:17

← 1 Peter 2:16 1 Peter 2:17 (KJV) 1 Peter 2:18 →
As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

Strong's References
  • G25 — ἀγαπάω (agapáō, ag-ap-ah'-o): perhaps from ἄγαν (ágan) (much) (or compare H5689); to love (in a social or moral sense); (be-)love(-ed). Compare φιλέω (philéō) G5368.
  • G81 — ἀδελφότης (adelphótēs, ad-el-fot'-ace): from ἀδελφός (adelphós) G80; brotherhood (properly, the feeling of brotherliness), i.e. the (Christian) fraternity; brethren, brotherhood
  • G935 — βασιλεύς (basileús, bas-il-yooce'): probably from βάσις (básis) G939 (through the notion of a foundation of power); a sovereign (abstractly, relatively, or figuratively); king
  • G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ (ho) G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very; X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward)
  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole; all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever
  • G5091 — τιμάω (timáō, tim-ah'-o): from τίμιος (tímios) G5093; to prize, i.e. fix a valuation upon; by implication, to revere; honour, value
  • G5399 — φοβέω (phobéō, fob-eh'-o): from φόβος (phóbos) G5401; to frighten, i.e. (passively) to be alarmed; by analogy, to be in awe of, i.e. revere; be (+ sore) afraid, fear (exceedingly), reverence

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
