Proverbs 20:3

← Proverbs 20:2 Proverbs 20:3 (KJV) Proverbs 20:4 →
The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Compare אִשָּׁה (ʼishshâh) H802.
  • H1566 — גָּלַע (gâlaʻ, gaw-lah'): a primitive root; to be obstinate; (inter-) meddle (with).
  • H3519 — כָּבוֹד (kâbôwd, kaw-bode'): rarely כָּבֹד (kâbôd); from כָּבַד (kâbad) H3513; properly, weight, but only figuratively in a good sense, splendor or copiousness; glorious(-ly), glory, honour(-able).
  • H7379 — רִיב (rîyb, reeb): or רִב (rib); from רִיב (rîyb) H7378; a contest (personal or legal); [phrase] adversary, cause, chiding, contend(-tion), controversy, multitude (from the margin), pleading, strife, strive(-ing), suit.
  • H7674 — שֶׁבֶת (shebeth, sheh'-beth): from שָׁבַת (shâbath) H7673; rest, interruption, cessation; cease, sit still, loss of time.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H3605 — כֹּל (kôl, kole): or (Jeremiah 33:8) כּוֹל (kôwl); from כָּלַל (kâlal) H3634; properly, the whole; hence, all, any or every (in the singular only, but often in a plural sense); (in) all (manner, (ye)), altogether, any (manner), enough, every (one, place, thing), howsoever, as many as, (no-) thing, ought, whatsoever, (the) whole, whoso(-ever).
