Philippians 1:9

← Philippians 1:8 Philippians 1:9 (KJV) Philippians 1:10 →
For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G1922 — ἐπίγνωσις (epígnōsis, ep-ig'-no-sis): from ἐπιγινώσκω (epiginṓskō) G1921; recognition, i.e. (by implication) full discernment, acknowledgement; (ac-)knowledge(-ing, - ment)
  • G2089 — ἔτι (éti, et'-ee): perhaps akin to ἔτος (étos) G2094; "yet," still (of time or degree); after that, also, ever, (any) further, (t-)henceforth (more), hereafter, (any) longer, (any) more(-one), now, still, yet
  • G2443 — ἵνα (hína, hin'-ah): probably from the same as the former part of ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438 (through the demonstrative idea; compare ὁ (ho) G3588); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result); albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to. Compare ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3123 — μᾶλλον (mâllon, mal'-lon): neuter of the comparative of the same as μάλιστα (málista) G3122; (adverbially) more (in a greater degree) or rather; + better, X far, (the) more (and more), (so) much (the more), rather
  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole; all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever
  • G4052 — περισσεύω (perisseúō, per-is-syoo'-o): from περισσός (perissós) G4053; to superabound (in quantity or quality), be in excess, be superfluous; also (transitively) to cause to superabound or excel; (make, more) abound, (have, have more) abundance (be more) abundant, be the better, enough and to spare, exceed, excel, increase, be left, redound, remain (over and above)
  • G4336 — προσεύχομαι (proseúchomai, pros-yoo'-khom-ahee): from πρός (prós) G4314 and εὔχομαι (eúchomai) G2172; to pray to God, i.e. supplicate, worship; pray (X earnestly, for), make prayer
  • G5124 — τοῦτο (toûto, too'-to): neuter singular nominative or accusative case of οὗτος (hoûtos) G3778; that thing; here (-unto), it, partly, self(-same), so, that (intent), the same, there(-fore, -unto), this, thus, where(-fore)
  • G5216 — ὑμῶν (hymōn, hoo-mone'): genitive case of ὑμεῖς (hymeîs) G5210; of (from or concerning) you; ye, you, your (own, -selves)

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
