Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:
|
Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
|
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

blasphēmein | G987 | V-PAN | to blaspheme |
- G223 — Ἀλέξανδρος (Aléxandros, al-ex'-an-dros): from the same as (the first part of) ἀλέκτωρ (aléktōr) G220 and ἀνήρ (anḗr) G435; man-defender; Alexander, the name of three Israelites and one other man; Alexander
- G987 — βλασφημέω (blasphēméō, blas-fay-meh'-o): from βλάσφημος (blásphēmos) G989; to vilify; specially, to speak impiously; (speak) blaspheme(-er, -mously, -my), defame, rail on, revile, speak evil
- G2076 — ἐστί (estí, es-tee'): third person singular present indicative of εἰμί (eimí) G1510; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are; are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle
- G2443 — ἵνα (hína, hin'-ah): probably from the same as the former part of ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438 (through the demonstrative idea; compare ὁ (ho) G3588); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result); albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to. Compare ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether; any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή (eàn mḗ) G3362, ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363, οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372, μηκύνω (mēkýnō) G3373, μήν (mḗn) G3375, μὴ οὐκ (mḕ ouk) G3378.
- G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ (ho) G3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that; one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ (hoû) G3757.
- G3811 — παιδεύω (paideúō, pahee-dyoo'-o): from παῖς (paîs) G3816; to train up a child, i.e. educate, or (by implication), discipline (by punishment); chasten(-ise), instruct, learn, teach
- G3860 — παραδίδωμι (paradídōmi, par-ad-id'-o-mee): from παρά (pará) G3844 and δίδωμι (dídōmi) G1325; to surrender, i.e yield up, intrust, transmit; betray, bring forth, cast, commit, deliver (up), give (over, up), hazard, put in prison, recommend
- G4567 — Σατανᾶς (Satanâs, sat-an-as'): of Chaldee origin corresponding to H4566 (with the definite affix); the accuser, i.e. the devil; Satan
- G5211 — Ὑμεναῖος (Hymenaîos, hoo-men-ah'-yos): from Ὑμήν (Hymḗn) (the god of weddings); "hymenæal"; Hymenæus, an opponent of Christianity; Hymenæus
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
