Romans 7:12

← Romans 7:11 Romans 7:12 (KJV) Romans 7:13 →
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

Strong's References
  • G18 — ἀγαθός (agathós, ag-ath-os'): a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun); benefit, good(-s, things), well. Compare καλός (kalós) G2570.
  • G40 — ἅγιος (hágios, hag'-ee-os): from ἅγος (hágos) (an awful thing) (compare ἁγνός (hagnós) G53, θάλπω (thálpō) G2282); sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated); (most) holy (one, thing), saint
  • G1342 — δίκαιος (díkaios, dik'-ah-yos): from δίκη (díkē) G1349; equitable (in character or act); by implication, innocent, holy (absolutely or relatively); just, meet, right(-eous)
  • G1785 — ἐντολή (entolḗ, en-tol-ay'): from ἐντέλλομαι (entéllomai) G1781; injunction, i.e. an authoritative prescription; commandment, precept
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3303 — μέν (mén, men): a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with δέ (dé) G1161 (this one, the former, etc.); even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.
  • G3551 — νόμος (nómos, nom'-os): from a primary νέμω (némō) (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), genitive case (regulation), specially, (of Moses (including the volume); also of the Gospel), or figuratively (a principle); law
  • G5620 — ὥστε (hṓste, hoce'-teh): from ὡς (hōs) G5613 and τέ (té) G5037; so too, i.e. thus therefore (in various relations of consecution, as follow); (insomuch) as, so that (then), (insomuch) that, therefore, to, wherefore

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
