Hebrews 12:20

← Hebrews 12:19 Hebrews 12:20 (KJV) Hebrews 12:21 →
And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

Strong's References
  • G1002 — βολίς (bolís, bol-ece'): from βάλλω (bállō) G906; a missile, i.e. javelin; dart
  • G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles); and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet
  • G1291 — διαστέλλομαι (diastéllomai, dee-as-tel'-lom-ahee): middle voice from διά (diá) G1223 and στέλλω (stéllō) G4724; to set (oneself) apart (figuratively, distinguish), i.e. (by implication) to enjoin; charge, that which was (give) commanded(-ment)
  • G2228 — ἤ (ḗ, ay): a primary particle of distinction between two connected terms; disjunctive, or; comparative, than; and, but (either), (n-)either, except it be, (n-)or (else), rather, save, than, that, what, yea. Often used in connection with other particles. Compare especially ἤδη (ḗdē) G2235, ἤπερ (ḗper) G2260, ἤτοι (ḗtoi) G2273.
  • G2342 — θηρίον (thēríon, thay-ree'-on): diminutive from the same as θήρα (thḗra) G2339; a dangerous animal; (venomous, wild) beast
  • G2345 — θιγγάνω (thingánō, thing-gan'-o): a prolonged form of an obsolete primary θίγω (thígō) (to finger); to manipulate, i.e. have to do with; by implication, to injure; handle, touch
  • G2579 — κἄν (kán, kan): from καί (kaí) G2532 and ἐάν (eán) G1437; and (or even) if; and (also) if (so much as), if but, at the least, though, yet
  • G2700 — κατατοξεύω (katatoxeúō, kat-at-ox-yoo'-o): from κατά (katá) G2596 and a derivative of τόξον (tóxon) G5115; to shoot down with an arrow or other missile; thrust through
  • G3036 — λιθοβολέω (lithoboléō, lith-ob-ol-eh'-o): from a compound of λίθος (líthos) G3037 and βάλλω (bállō) G906; to throw stones, i.e. lapidate; stone, cast stones
  • G3735 — ὄρος (óros, or'-os): probably from an obsolete ὄρω (órō) (to rise or "rear"; perhaps akin to αἴρω (aírō) G142; compare ὄρνις (órnis) G3733); a mountain (as lifting itself above the plain); hill, mount(-ain)
  • G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή (mḗ) G3361) adverb; no or not; + long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372.
  • G5342 — φέρω (phérō, fer'-o): a primary verb (for which other, and apparently not cognate ones are used in certain tenses only; namely, οἴω (oíō) oy'-o; and ἐνέγκω (enénkō) en-eng'-ko); to "bear" or carry (in a very wide application, literally and figuratively, as follows); be, bear, bring (forth), carry, come, + let her drive, be driven, endure, go on, lay, lead, move, reach, rushing, uphold

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
