Psalms 51:18

← Psalms 51:17 Psalms 51:18 (KJV) Psalms 51:19 →
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Strong's References
  • H1129 — בָּנָה (bânâh, baw-naw'): a primitive root; to build (literally and figuratively); (begin to) build(-er), obtain children, make, repair, set (up), [idiom] surely.
  • H2346 — חוֹמָה (chôwmâh, kho-maw'): feminine active participle of an unused root apparently meaning to join; a wall of protection; wall, walled.
  • H3190 — יָטַב (yâṭab, yaw-tab'): a primitive root; to be (causative) make well, literally (sound, beautiful) or figuratively (happy, successful, right); be accepted, amend, use aright, benefit, be (make) better, seem best, make cheerful, be comely, [phrase] be content, diligent(-ly), dress, earnestly, find favour, give, be glad, do (be, make) good(-ness), be (make) merry, please ([phrase] well), shew more (kindness), skilfully, [idiom] very small, surely, make sweet, thoroughly, tire, trim, very, be (can, deal, entreat, go, have) well (said, seen).
  • H3389 — יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם (Yᵉrûwshâlaim, yer-oo-shaw-lah'-im): rarely יְרוּשָׁלַיִם (Yᵉrûwshâlayim); a dual (in allusion to its two main hills (the true pointing, at least of the former reading, seems to be that of יְרוּשָׁלֵם (Yᵉrûwshâlêm) H3390)); probably from (the passive participle of) יָרָה (yârâh) H3384 and שָׁלַם (shâlam) H7999; founded peaceful; Jerushalaim or Jerushalem, the capital city of Palestine; Jerusalem.
  • H6726 — צִיּוֹן (Tsîyôwn, tsee-yone'): the same (regularly) as צִיּוּן (tsîyûwn) H6725; Tsijon (as a permanent capital), a mountain of Jerusalem; Zion.
  • H7522 — רָצוֹן (râtsôwn, raw-tsone'): or רָצֹן (râtsôn); from רָצָה (râtsâh) H7521; delight (especially as shown); (be) acceptable(-ance, -ed), delight, desire, favour, (good) pleasure, (own, self, voluntary) will, as...(what) would.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H853 — אֵת (ʼêth, ayth): apparent contracted from אוֹת (ʼôwth) H226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly, self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely); (as such unrepresented in English).
