Nahum 2:11

← Nahum 2:10 Nahum 2:11 (KJV) Nahum 2:12 →
She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.
Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?
The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

  • H2729 — חָרַד (chârad, khaw-rad'): a primitive root; to shudder with terror; hence, to fear; also to hasten (with anxiety); be (make) afraid, be careful, discomfit, fray (away), quake, tremble.
  • H3715 — כְּפִיר (kᵉphîyr, kef-eer'): from כָּפַר (kâphar) H3722; a village (as covered in by walls); also a young lion (perhaps as covered with a mane); (young) lion, village. Compare כָּפָר (kâphâr) H3723.
  • H3833 — לָבִיא (lâbîyʼ, law-bee'): or (Ezekiel 19:2) לְבִיָּא (lᵉbîyâʼ); irregular masculine plural לְבָאִים (lᵉbâʼîym); irregular feminine plural לְבָאוֹת (lᵉbâʼôwth); from an unused root meaning; compare אֲרִי (ʼărîy) H738; to roar; a lion (properly, a lioness as the fiercer (although not a roarer;)); (great, old, stout) lion, lioness, young (lion).
  • H4583 — מָעוֹן (mâʻôwn, maw-ohn'): or מָעִין (mâʻîyn); (1 Chronicles 4:41), from the same as עוֹנָה (ʻôwnâh) H5772; an abode, of God (the Tabernacle or the Temple), men (their home) or animals (their lair); hence, a retreat (asylum); den, dwelling((-) place), habitation.
  • H4829 — מִרְעֶה (mirʻeh, meer-eh'): from רָעָה (râʻâh) H7462 in the sense of feeding; pasture (the place or the act); also the haunt of wild animals; feeding place, pasture.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H346 — אַיֵּה (ʼayêh, ah-yay'): prolonged from אַי (ʼay) H335; where?; where.
  • H369 — אַיִן (ʼayin, ah'-yin): as if from a primitive root meaning to be nothing or not exist; a non-entity; generally used as a negative particle; else, except, fail, (father-) less, be gone, in(-curable), neither, never, no (where), none, nor, (any, thing), not, nothing, to nought, past, un(-searchable), well-nigh, without. Compare אַיִן (ʼayin) H370.
  • H834 — אֲשֶׁר (ʼăsher, ash-er'): a primitive relative pronoun (of every gender and number); who, which, what, that; also (as an adverb and a conjunction) when, where, how, because, in order that, etc.; [idiom] after, [idiom] alike, as (soon as), because, [idiom] every, for, [phrase] forasmuch, [phrase] from whence, [phrase] how(-soever), [idiom] if, (so) that ((thing) which, wherein), [idiom] though, [phrase] until, [phrase] whatsoever, when, where ([phrase] -as, -in, -of, -on, -soever, -with), which, whilst, [phrase] whither(-soever), who(-m, -soever, -se). As it is indeclinable, it is often accompanied by the personal pronoun expletively, used to show the connection.
  • H1931 — הוּא (hûwʼ, hoo): of which the feminine (beyond the Pentateuch) is הִיא (hîyʼ); a primitive word, the third person pronoun singular; he (she or it); only expressed when emphatic or without a verb; also (intensively) self, or (especially with the article) the same; sometimes (as demonstrative) this or that; occasionally (instead of copula) as or are; he, as for her, him(-self), it, the same, she (herself), such, that (...it), these, they, this, those, which (is), who.
  • H8033 — שָׁם (shâm, shawm): a primitive particle (rather from the relative pronoun, אֲשֶׁר (ʼăsher) H834); there (transferring to time) then; often thither, or thence; in it, [phrase] thence, there (-in, [phrase] of, [phrase] out), [phrase] thither, [phrase] whither.
