Hebrews 4:9

← Hebrews 4:8 Hebrews 4:9 (KJV) Hebrews 4:10 →
For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Strong's References
  • G620 — ἀπολείπω (apoleípō, ap-ol-ipe'-o): from ἀπό (apó) G575 and λείπω (leípō) G3007; to leave behind (passively, remain); by implication, to forsake; leave, remain
  • G686 — ἄρα (ára, ar'-ah): probably from αἴρω (aírō) G142 (through the idea of drawing a conclusion); a particle denoting an inference more or less decisive (as follows); haply, (what) manner (of man), no doubt, perhaps, so be, then, therefore, truly, wherefore. Often used in connection with other particles, especially γέ (gé) G1065 or οὖν (oûn) G3767 (after) or εἰ (ei) G1487 (before). Compare also ἆρα (âra) G687.
  • G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ (ho) G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very; X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward)
  • G2992 — λαός (laós, lah-os'): apparently a primary word; a people (in general; thus differing from δῆμος (dēmos) G1218, which denotes one's own populace); people
  • G4520 — σαββατισμός (sabbatismós, sab-bat-is-mos'): from a derivative of σάββατον (sábbaton) G4521; a "sabbatism", i.e. (figuratively) the repose of Christianity (as a type of heaven); rest

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
