Ezekiel 23:5

← Ezekiel 23:4 Ezekiel 23:5 (KJV) Ezekiel 23:6 →
And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister: and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names; Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.
And Aholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,
Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses.

Strong's References
  • H157 — אָהַב (ʼâhab, aw-hab'): or אָהֵב (ʼâhêb) ; a primitive root; to have affection for (sexually or otherwise); (be-) love(-d, -ly, -r), like, friend.
  • H170 — אׇהֳלָה (ʼOhŏlâh, o-hol-aw'): in form a feminine of אֹהֶל (ʼôhel) H168, but in fact for אׇהֳלָהּ (ʼOhŏlâhh); from אֹהֶל (ʼôhel) H168; her tent (i.e. idolatrous sanctuary); Oholah, a symbolic name for Samaria; Aholah.
  • H804 — אַשּׁוּר (ʼAshshûwr, ash-shoor'): or אַשֻּׁר (ʼAshshur); apparently from אָשַׁר (ʼâshar) H833 (in the sense of successful); Ashshur, the second son of Shem; also his descendants and the country occupied by them (i.e. Assyria), its region and its empire; Asshur, Assur, Assyria, Assyrians. See אָשֻׁר (ʼâshur) H838.
  • H2181 — זָנָה (zânâh, zaw-naw'): a primitive root (highly-fed and therefore wanton); to commit adultery (usually of the female, and less often of simple fornication, rarely of involuntary ravishment); figuratively, to commit idolatry (the Jewish people being regarded as the spouse of Jehovah); (cause to) commit fornication, [idiom] continually, [idiom] great, (be an, play the) harlot, (cause to be, play the) whore, (commit, fall to) whoredom, (cause to) go a-whoring, whorish.
  • H5689 — עֲגַב (ʻăgab, aw-gab'): a primitive root; to breathe after, i.e. to love (sensually); dote, lover.
  • H7138 — קָרוֹב (qârôwb, kaw-robe'): or קָרֹב (qârôb); from קָרַב (qârab) H7126; near (in place, kindred or time); allied, approach, at hand, [phrase] any of kin, kinsfold(-sman), (that is) near (of kin), neighbour, (that is) next, (them that come) nigh (at hand), more ready, short(-ly).
  • H8478 — תַּחַת (tachath, takh'-ath): from the same as תּוֹחַ (Tôwach) H8430; the bottom (as depressed); only adverbially, below (often with prepositional prefix underneath), in lieu of, etc.; as, beneath, [idiom] flat, in(-stead), (same) place (where...is), room, for...sake, stead of, under, [idiom] unto, [idiom] when...was mine, whereas, (where-) fore, with.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H413 — אֵל (ʼêl, ale): (but only used in the shortened constructive form אֶל (ʼel) ); a primitive particle; properly, denoting motion towards, but occasionally used of a quiescent position, i.e.; near, with or among; often in general, to; about, according to, after, against, among, as for, at, because(-fore, -side), both...and, by, concerning, for, from, [idiom] hath, in(-to), near, (out) of, over, through, to(-ward), under, unto, upon, whether, with(-in).
  • H5921 — עַל (ʻal, al): properly, the same as עַל (ʻal) H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications; above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, [idiom] as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, [idiom] both and, by (reason of), [idiom] had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, [idiom] with.
