Acts 21:38

← Acts 21:37 Acts 21:38 (KJV) Acts 21:39 →
And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?
Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?
But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

Often used in connection with other particles, especially γέ (gé) G1065 or οὖν (oûn) G3767 (after) or εἰ (ei) G1487 (before). Compare also ἆρα (âra) G687.

Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively).
  • G1806 — ἐξάγω (exágō, ex-ag'-o): from ἐκ (ek) G1537 and ἄγω (ágō) G71; to lead forth; bring forth (out), fetch (lead) out
  • G2048 — ἔρημος (érēmos, er'-ay-mos): of uncertain affinity; lonesome, i.e. (by implication) waste (usually as a noun, χώρα (chṓra) G5561 being implied); desert, desolate, solitary, wilderness
  • G2250 — ἡμέρα (hēméra, hay-mer'-ah): feminine (with ὥρα (hṓra) G5610 implied) of a derivative of ἧμαι (hēmai) (to sit; akin to the base of ἑδραῖος (hedraîos) G1476) meaning tame, i.e. gentle; day, i.e. (literally) the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours (but several days were usually reckoned by the Jews as inclusive of the parts of both extremes); figuratively, a period (always defined more or less clearly by the context); age, + alway, (mid-)day (by day, (-ly)), + for ever, judgment, (day) time, while, years

  • G4253 — πρό (pró, pro): a primary preposition; "fore", i.e. in front of, prior (figuratively, superior) to; above, ago, before, or ever. In the comparative, it retains the same significations.
