1 NO se turbe vuestro corazón: creéis en Dios, creed también en mí. 2 En la casa de mi Padre muchas moradas hay: de otra manera os lo hubiera dicho: voy, pues, á preparar lugar para vosotros. 3 Y si me fuere, y os aparejare lugar, vendré otra vez, y os tomaré á mí mismo: para que donde yo estoy, vosotros también estéis. 4 Y sabéis á dónde yo voy; y sabéis el camino. 5 Dícele Tomás: Señor, no sabemos á dónde vas: ¿cómo, pues, podemos saber el camino? 6 Jesús le dice: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida: nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí. 7 Si me conocieseis, también á mi Padre conocierais: y desde ahora le conocéis, y le habéis visto. 8 Dícele Felipe: Señor, muéstranos el Padre, y nos basta. 9 Jesús le dice: ¿Tanto tiempo ha que estoy con vosotros, y no me has conocido, Felipe? El que me ha visto, ha visto al Padre; ¿cómo, pues, dices tú: Muéstranos el Padre? 10 ¿No crees que yo soy en el Padre, y el Padre en mí? Las palabras que yo os hablo, no las hablo de mí mismo: mas el Padre que está en mí, él hace las obras. 11 Creedme que yo soy en el Padre, y el Padre en mí: de otra manera, creedme por las mismas obras. 12 De cierto, de cierto os digo: El que en mí cree, las obras que yo hago también él las hará; y mayores que éstas hará; porque yo voy al Padre. 13 Y todo lo que pidiereis al Padre en mi nombre, esto haré, para que el Padre sea glorificado en el Hijo. 14 Si algo pidiereis en mi nombre, yo lo haré. 15 Si me amáis, guardad mis mandamientos; 16 Y yo rogaré al Padre, y os dará otro Consolador, para que esté con vosotros para siempre: 17 Al Espíritu de verdad, al cual el mundo no puede recibir, porque no le ve, ni le conoce: mas vosotros le conocéis; porque está con vosotros, y será en vosotros. 18 No os dejaré huérfanos: vendré á vosotros. 19 Aun un poquito, y el mundo no me verá más; empero vosotros me veréis; porque yo vivo, y vosotros también viviréis. 20 En aquel día vosotros conoceréis que yo estoy en mi Padre, y vosotros en mí, y yo en vosotros. 21 El que tiene mis mandamientos, y los guarda, aquél es el que me ama; y el que me ama, será amado de mi Padre, y yo le amaré, y me manifestaré á él. 22 Dícele Judas, no el Iscariote: Señor, ¿qué hay porque te hayas de manifestar á nosotros, y no al mundo? 23 Respondió Jesús, y díjole: El que me ama, mi palabra guardará; y mi Padre le amará, y vendremos á él, y haremos con él morada. 24 El que no me ama, no guarda mis palabras: y la palabra que habéis oído, no es mía, sino del Padre que me envió. 25 Estas cosas os he hablado estando con vosotros. 26 Mas el Consolador, el Espíritu Santo, al cual el Padre enviará en mi nombre, él os enseñará todas las cosas, y os recordará todas las cosas que os he dicho. 27 La paz os dejo, mi paz os doy: no como el mundo la da, yo os la doy. No se turbe vuestro corazón, ni tenga miedo. 28 Habéis oído cómo yo os he dicho: Voy, y vengo á vosotros. Si me amaseis, ciertamente os gozaríais, porque he dicho que voy al Padre: porque el Padre mayor es que yo. 29 Y ahora os lo he dicho antes que se haga; para que cuando se hiciere, creáis. 30 Ya no hablaré mucho con vosotros: porque viene el príncipe de este mundo; mas no tiene nada en mí. 31 Empero para que conozca el mundo que amo al Padre, y como el Padre me dió el mandamiento, así hago. 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
-- There is only one way to God. Only through Jesus! All else will not come unto the Father.
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
--Does greater mean bigger or more? I don't know how it could mean bigger, and it looks like it means more: Definición: irregular comparative of μέγας; larger (literally or figuratively, specially, in age):--elder, greater(-est), more.
Jesus had a very short ministry and lived in a time before mass media and ubiquitous communication. If the work of Jesus was to point people to God (miracles only being a means that he used to do so), this verse easily becomes literal and at the same time scary. Are we doing the work to point people to God? Are we actively doing this in an all-in, self-sacrificial manner that we see in Jesus, Paul, and the post-resurrection apostles? If not, the question becomes why not and *do we believe*? Do we understand how big God is? Do we understand how long eternity is? How horrible the Lake of Fire will be and how many are on that wide path to destruction? How great eternity with God in Heaven will be and how few will find it? I think if we completely understood the extent of those and had faith that it was all true the actions would naturally and uninhibitedly flow, even gush.
17 [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
--Do we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us? Are we sure? Do we "know" him? The stakes are incredibly high. It is probably a good idea to pray about this for as long as it takes until we are sure that we know him and that he is in us.
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
--Jesus equates love with obedience. Apparently this is binary, one or the other. Those who love Jesus keep his words. Those who do not love Jesus do not keep his words. Those who are being disobedient do not love Jesus, regardless of what they claim or believe. Jesus tells us to deny ourselves and follow him (Mark 8:34-35) and if we save our life for ourselves we will perish but if we lose our life for Jesus and the gospel we will be saved. If we love Jesus we will be obedient and follow him denying ourselves thereby becoming a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1).
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
--Do we have peace? If not, do we have faith and what do we believe? The peace Jesus brings is peace with the Father, who otherwise is our enemy (Romans 5:10). Once we know that we will have eternity (millions and millions of years) with God that nobody can take away (John 10:28-29), what is left for us to be troubled about and fear in this world? If we are denying ourselves and focused solely on following Jesus, what is there to worry about? Fear of possibilities in this world and a troubled heart about them can be used as an indicator of what we believe, where we place our faith, and whether or not we are saved.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
--Do we rejoice that Jesus died for us? If we believe what the Bible says about redemption and the only two future outcomes (Heaven and Hell), that is the greatest news ever. If we are not rejoicing at Jesus' death in our place, it appears from Jesus' words here that we may have a love/faith/belief problem.
