Psalms 12:4
| ← Psalms 12:3 | Psalms 12:4 (KJV) | Psalms 12:5 → |
|---|---|---|
The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
|
Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
|
For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.

Strong's References
- H113 — אָדוֹן (ʼâdôwn, aw-done'): or (shortened) אָדֹן (ʼâdôn); from an unused root (meaning to rule); sovereign, i.e. controller (human or divine); lord, master, owner. Compare also names beginning with 'Adoni-'.
- H559 — אָמַר (ʼâmar, aw-mar'): a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude); answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, [phrase] (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, [idiom] desire, determine, [idiom] expressly, [idiom] indeed, [idiom] intend, name, [idiom] plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), [idiom] still, [idiom] suppose, talk, tell, term, [idiom] that is, [idiom] think, use (speech), utter, [idiom] verily, [idiom] yet.
- H1396 — גָּבַר (gâbar, gaw-bar'): a primitive root; to be strong; by implication, to prevail, act insolently; exceed, confirm, be great, be mighty, prevail, put to more (strength), strengthen, be stronger, be valiant.
- H3956 — לָשׁוֹן (lâshôwn, law-shone'): or לָשֹׁן (lâshôn); also (in plural) feminine לְשֹׁנָה (lᵉshônâh); from לָשַׁן (lâshan) H3960; the tongue (of man or animals), used literally (as the instrument of licking, eating, or speech), and figuratively (speech, an ingot, a fork of flame, a cove of water); [phrase] babbler, bay, [phrase] evil speaker, language, talker, tongue, wedge.
- H8193 — שָׂפָה (sâphâh, saw-faw'): or (in dual and plural) שֶׂפֶת (sepheth); probably from סָפָה (çâphâh) H5595 or שָׁפָה (shâphâh) H8192 through the idea of termination (compare סוֹף (çôwph) H5490); the lip (as a natural boundary); by implication, language; by analogy, a margin (of a vessel, water, cloth, etc.); band, bank, binding, border, brim, brink, edge, language, lip, prating, (sea-)shore, side, speech, talk, (vain) words.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- H834 — אֲשֶׁר (ʼăsher, ash-er'): a primitive relative pronoun (of every gender and number); who, which, what, that; also (as an adverb and a conjunction) when, where, how, because, in order that, etc.; [idiom] after, [idiom] alike, as (soon as), because, [idiom] every, for, [phrase] forasmuch, [phrase] from whence, [phrase] how(-soever), [idiom] if, (so) that ((thing) which, wherein), [idiom] though, [phrase] until, [phrase] whatsoever, when, where ([phrase] -as, -in, -of, -on, -soever, -with), which, whilst, [phrase] whither(-soever), who(-m, -soever, -se). As it is indeclinable, it is often accompanied by the personal pronoun expletively, used to show the connection.
- H854 — אֵת (ʼêth, ayth): probably from אָנָה (ʼânâh) H579; properly, nearness (used only as a preposition or an adverb), near; hence, generally, with, by, at, among, etc.; against, among, before, by, for, from, in(-to), (out) of, with. Often with another prepositional prefix.
- H4310 — מִי (mîy, me): an interrogative pronoun of persons, as מָה (mâh) H4100 is of things; who? (occasionally, by a peculiar idiom, of things); also (indefinitely) whoever; often used in oblique construction with prefix or suffix; any (man), [idiom] he, [idiom] him, [phrase] O that! what, which, who(-m, -se, -soever), [phrase] would to God.
