|---|---|---|

|
For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
|
But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Strong's References
- G444 — ἄνθρωπος (ánthrōpos, anth'-ro-pos): from ἀνήρ (anḗr) G435 and ὤψ (ṓps) (the countenance; from ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700); man-faced, i.e. a human being; certain, man
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G926 — βαρύς (barýs, bar-ooce'): from the same as βάρος (báros) G922; weighty, i.e. (fig) burdensome, grave; grievous, heavy, weightier
- G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles); and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet
- G1147 — δάκτυλος (dáktylos, dak'-too-los): probably from δέκα (déka) G1176; a finger; finger
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
- G1195 — δεσμεύω (desmeúō, des-myoo'-o): from a (presumed) derivative of δεσμέω (desméō) G1196; to be a binder (captor), i.e. to enchain (a prisoner), to tie on (a load); bind
- G1419 — δυσβάστακτος (dysbástaktos, doos-bas'-tak-tos): from δυσ- (dys-) G1418 and a derivative of βαστάζω (bastázō) G941; oppressive; grievous to be borne
- G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.; about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
- G2007 — ἐπιτίθημι (epitíthēmi, ep-ee-tith'-ay-mee): from ἐπί (epí) G1909 and τίθημι (títhēmi) G5087; to impose (in a friendly or hostile sense); add unto, lade, lay upon, put (up) on, set on (up), + surname, X wound
- G2309 — θέλω (thélō, thel'-o): apparently strengthened from the alternate form of αἱρέομαι (hairéomai) G138; to determine (as an active option from subjective impulse; whereas βούλομαι (boúlomai) G1014 properly denotes rather a passive acquiescence in objective considerations), i.e. choose or prefer (literally or figuratively); by implication, to wish, i.e. be inclined to (sometimes adverbially, gladly); impersonally for the future tense, to be about to; by Hebraism, to delight in; desire, be disposed (forward), intend, list, love, mean, please, have rather, (be) will (have, -ling, - ling(-ly))
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G2795 — κινέω (kinéō, kin-eh'-o): from κίω (kíō) (poetic for εἶμι (eîmi), to go); to stir (transitively), literally or figuratively; (re-)move(-r), way
- G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή (mḗ) G3361) adverb; no or not; + long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372.
- G5413 — φορτίον (phortíon, for-tee'-on): diminutive of φόρτος (phórtos) G5414; an invoice (as part of freight), i.e. (figuratively) a task or service; burden
- G5606 — ὦμος (ōmos, o'-mos): perhaps from the alternate of φέρω (phérō) G5342; the shoulder (as that on which burdens are borne); shoulder
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
