Isaiah 9:20

← Isaiah 9:19 Isaiah 9:20 (KJV) Isaiah 9:21 →
Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.
And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:
Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Strong's References
  • H376 — אִישׁ (ʼîysh, eesh): contracted for אֱנוֹשׁ (ʼĕnôwsh) H582 (or perhaps rather from an unused root meaning to be extant); a man as an individual or a male person; often used as an adjunct to a more definite term (and in such cases frequently not expressed in translation); also, another, any (man), a certain, [phrase] champion, consent, each, every (one), fellow, (foot-, husband-) man, (good-, great, mighty) man, he, high (degree), him (that is), husband, man(-kind), [phrase] none, one, people, person, [phrase] steward, what (man) soever, whoso(-ever), worthy. Compare אִשָּׁה (ʼishshâh) H802.
  • H398 — אָכַל (ʼâkal, aw-kal'): a primitive root; to eat (literally or figuratively); [idiom] at all, burn up, consume, devour(-er, up), dine, eat(-er, up), feed (with), food, [idiom] freely, [idiom] in...wise(-deed, plenty), (lay) meat, [idiom] quite.
  • H1320 — בָּשָׂר (bâsâr, baw-sawr'): from בָּשַׂר (bâsar) H1319; flesh (from its freshness); by extension, body, person; also (by euphemistically) the pudenda of aman; body, (fat, lean) flesh(-ed), kin, (man-) kind, [phrase] nakedness, self, skin.
  • H1504 — גָּזַר (gâzar, gaw-zar'): a primitive root; to cut down or off; (figuratively) to destroy, divide, exclude, or decide; cut down (off), decree, divide, snatch.
  • H2220 — זְרוֹעַ (zᵉrôwaʻ, zer-o'-ah): or (shortened) זְרֹעַ (zᵉrôaʻ); and (feminine) זְרוֹעָה (zᵉrôwʻâh); or זְרֹעָה (zᵉrôʻâh); from זָרַע (zâraʻ) H2232; the arm (as stretched out), or (of animals) the foreleg; figuratively, force; arm, [phrase] help, mighty, power, shoulder, strength.
  • H3225 — יָמִין (yâmîyn, yaw-meen'): from יָמַן (yâman) H3231; the right hand or side (leg, eye) of a person or other object (as the stronger and more dexterous); locally, the south; [phrase] left-handed, right (hand, side), south.
  • H7457 — רָעֵב (râʻêb, raw-abe'): from רָעֵב (râʻêb) H7456; hungry (more or less intensely); hunger bitten, hungry.
  • H7646 — שָׂבַע (sâbaʻ, saw-bah'): or שָׂבֵעַ (sâbêaʻ); a primitive root; to sate, i.e. fill to satisfaction (literally or figuratively); have enough, fill (full, self, with), be (to the) full (of), have plenty of, be satiate, satisfy (with), suffice, be weary of.
  • H8040 — שְׂמֹאול (sᵉmôʼwl, sem-ole'): or שְׂמֹאל (sᵉmôʼl); a primitive word (rather perhaps from the same as שִׂמְלָה (simlâh) H8071 (by insertion of the aleph) through the idea of wrapping up); properly, dark (as enveloped), i.e. the north; hence (by orientation), the left hand; left (hand, side).

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H3808 — לֹא (lôʼ, lo): or לוֹא (lôwʼ); or לֹה (lôh); (Deuteronomy 3:11), a primitive particle; not (the simple or abs. negation); by implication, no; often used with other particles; [idiom] before, [phrase] or else, ere, [phrase] except, ig(-norant), much, less, nay, neither, never, no((-ne), -r, (-thing)), ([idiom] as though...,(can-), for) not (out of), of nought, otherwise, out of, [phrase] surely, [phrase] as truly as, [phrase] of a truth, [phrase] verily, for want, [phrase] whether, without.
  • H5921 — עַל (ʻal, al): properly, the same as עַל (ʻal) H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications; above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, [idiom] as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, [idiom] both and, by (reason of), [idiom] had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, [idiom] with.
  • H7456 — רָעֵב (râʻêb, raw-abe'): a primitive root; to hunger; (suffer to) famish, (be, have, suffer, suffer to) hunger(-ry).
