Romans 3:5

← Romans 3:4 Romans 3:5 (KJV) Romans 3:6 →
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man)
God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

Strong's References
  • G93 — ἀδικία (adikía, ad-ee-kee'-ah): from ἄδικος (ádikos) G94; (legal) injustice (properly, the quality, by implication, the act); morally, wrongfulness (of character, life or act); iniquity, unjust, unrighteousness, wrong
  • G94 — ἄδικος (ádikos, ad'-ee-kos): from Α (A) G1 (as a negative particle) and δίκη (díkē) G1349; unjust; by extension wicked; by implication, treacherous; specially, heathen; unjust, unrighteous
  • G444 — ἄνθρωπος (ánthrōpos, anth'-ro-pos): from ἀνήρ (anḗr) G435 and ὤψ (ṓps) (the countenance; from ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700); man-faced, i.e. a human being; certain, man
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
  • G1343 — δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosýnē, dik-ah-yos-oo'-nay): from δίκαιος (díkaios) G1342; equity (of character or act); specially (Christian) justification; righteousness
  • G1487 — εἰ (ei, i): a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.; forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether. Often used in connection or composition with other particles, especially as in εἴγε (eíge) G1489, εἰ δὲ μή(γε) (ei dè mḗ(ge)) G1490, εἰ καί (ei kaí) G1499, εἰ μή (ei mḗ) G1508, εἰ μή τι (ei mḗ ti) G1509, εἴ περ (eí per) G1512, εἴ πως (eí pōs) G1513, εἴ τις (eí tis) G1536, ἐκ (ek) G1537. See also ἐάν (eán) G1437.
  • G2018 — ἐπιφέρω (epiphérō, ep-ee-fer'-o): from ἐπί (epí) G1909 and φέρω (phérō) G5342; to bear upon (or further), i.e. adduce (personally or judicially (accuse, inflict)), superinduce; add, bring (against), take
  • G2046 — ἐρέω (eréō, er-eh'-o): probably a fuller form of ῥέω (rhéō) G4483; an alternate for ἔπω (épō) G2036 in certain tenses; to utter, i.e. speak or say; call, say, speak (of), tell
  • G2257 — ἡμῶν (hēmōn, hay-mone'): genitive case plural of ἐγώ (egṓ) G1473; of (or from) us; our (company), us, we
  • G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ (ho) G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very; X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward)
  • G2596 — κατά (katá, kat-ah'): a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative) with which it is joined); about, according as (to), after, against, (when they were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly, concerning, + covered, (dai-)ly, down, every, (+ far more) exceeding, X more excellent, for, from … to, godly, in(-asmuch, divers, every, -to, respect of), … by, after the manner of, + by any means, beyond (out of) measure, X mightily, more, X natural, of (up-)on (X part), out (of every), over against, (+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus, (un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. In composition it retains many of these applications, and frequently denotes opposition, distribution, or intensity.
  • G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω (épō) G2036 and φημί (phēmí) G5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω (rhéō) G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω (laléō) G2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean; ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter
  • G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether; any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή (eàn mḗ) G3362, ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363, οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372, μηκύνω (mēkýnō) G3373, μήν (mḗn) G3375, μὴ οὐκ (mḕ ouk) G3378.
  • G3709 — ὀργή (orgḗ, or-gay'): from ὀρέγομαι (orégomai) G3713; properly, desire (as a reaching forth or excitement of the mind), i.e. (by analogy), violent passion (ire, or (justifiable) abhorrence); by implication punishment; anger, indignation, vengeance, wrath
  • G4921 — συνιστάω (synistáō, soon-is-tah'-o): from σύν (sýn) G4862 and ἵστημι (hístēmi) G2476 (including its collateral forms); to set together, i.e. (by implication) to introduce (favorably), or (figuratively) to exhibit; intransitively, to stand near, or (figuratively) to constitute; approve, commend, consist, make, stand (with)
  • G5101 — τίς (tís, tis): probably emphatic of τὶς (tìs) G5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or indirect questions); every man, how (much), + no(-ne, thing), what (manner, thing), where (-by, -fore, -of, -unto, - with, -withal), whether, which, who(-m, -se), why
