← Proverbs 16:26 Proverbs 16:27 (KJV) Proverbs 16:28 →
He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

  • H1100 — בְּלִיַּעַל (bᵉlîyaʻal, bel-e-yah'-al): from בְּלִי (bᵉlîy) H1097 and יַעַל (yaʻal) H3276;(often in connection with אִישׁ (ʼîysh) H376, אִשָּׁה (ʼishshâh) H802, בֵּן (bên) H1121, etc.); without profit, worthlessness; by extension, destruction, wickedness; Belial, evil, naughty, ungodly (men), wicked.
  • H3738 — כָּרָה (kârâh, kaw-raw'): a primitive root; properly, to dig; figuratively, to plot; generally, to bore or open; dig, [idiom] make (a banquet), open.
  • H6867 — צָרֶבֶת (tsârebeth, tsaw-reh'-beth): from צוּעָר (Tsûwʻâr) H6686; conflagration (of fire or disease); burning, inflammation.
  • H7451 — רַע (raʻ, rah): from רָעַע (râʻaʻ) H7489; bad or (as noun) evil (natural or moral); adversity, affliction, bad, calamity, [phrase] displease(-ure), distress, evil((-favouredness), man, thing), [phrase] exceedingly, [idiom] great, grief(-vous), harm, heavy, hurt(-ful), ill (favoured), [phrase] mark, mischief(-vous), misery, naught(-ty), noisome, [phrase] not please, sad(-ly), sore, sorrow, trouble, vex, wicked(-ly, -ness, one), worse(-st), wretchedness, wrong. (Incl. feminine raaah; as adjective or noun.).
  • H8193 — שָׂפָה (sâphâh, saw-faw'): or (in dual and plural) שֶׂפֶת (sepheth); probably from סָפָה (çâphâh) H5595 or שָׁפָה (shâphâh) H8192 through the idea of termination (compare סוֹף (çôwph) H5490); the lip (as a natural boundary); by implication, language; by analogy, a margin (of a vessel, water, cloth, etc.); band, bank, binding, border, brim, brink, edge, language, lip, prating, (sea-)shore, side, speech, talk, (vain) words.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H5921 — עַל (ʻal, al): properly, the same as עַל (ʻal) H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications; above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, [idiom] as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, [idiom] both and, by (reason of), [idiom] had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, [idiom] with.
