Philippians 2:28
| ← Philippians 2:27 | Philippians 2:28 (KJV) | Philippians 2:29 → |
|---|---|---|
For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.
|
I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
|
Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:

Strong's References
- G253 — ἀλυπότερος (alypóteros, al-oo-pot'-er-os): comparative of a compound of Α (A) G1 (as a negative particle) and λύπη (lýpē) G3077; more without grief; less sorrowful
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1492 — εἴδω (eídō, i'-do): a primary verb; used only in certain past tenses, the others being borrowed from the equivalent ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700 and ὁράω (horáō) G3708; properly, to see (literally or figuratively); by implication, (in the perfect tense only) to know; be aware, behold, X can (+ not tell), consider, (have) know(-ledge), look (on), perceive, see, be sure, tell, understand, wish, wot. Compare ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700.
- G2443 — ἵνα (hína, hin'-ah): probably from the same as the former part of ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438 (through the demonstrative idea; compare ὁ (ho) G3588); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result); albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to. Compare ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363.
- G2504 — κἀγώ (kagṓ, kag-o'): from καί (kaí) G2532 and ἐγώ (egṓ) G1473; so also the dative case κἀμοί (kamoí) kam-oy', and accusative case κἀμέ (kamé) kam-eh' and (or also, even, etc.) I, (to) me; (and, even, even so, so) I (also, in like wise), both me, me also
- G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly; and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore
- G3825 — πάλιν (pálin, pal'-in): probably from the same as πάλη (pálē) G3823 (through the idea of oscillatory repetition); (adverbially) anew, i.e. (of place) back, (of time) once more, or (conjunctionally) furthermore or on the other hand; again
- G3992 — πέμπω (pémpō, pem'-po): apparently a primary verb; to dispatch (from the subjective view or point of departure, whereas ἵημι (híēmi) (as a stronger form of εἶμι (eîmi)) refers rather to the objective point or terminus ad quem, and στέλλω (stéllō) G4724 denotes properly, the orderly motion involved), especially on a temporary errand; also to transmit, bestow, or wield; send, thrust in
- G4708 — σπουδαιοτέρως (spoudaiotérōs, spoo-dah-yot-er'-oce): adverb from σπουδαιότερος (spoudaióteros) G4707; more speedily, i.e. sooner than otherwise; more carefully
- G5463 — χαίρω (chaírō, khah'-ee-ro): a primary verb; to be "cheer"ful, i.e. calmly happy or well-off; impersonally, especially as salutation (on meeting or parting), be well; farewell, be glad, God speed, greeting, hall, joy(- fully), rejoice
- G5600 — ὦ (ō, o): the subjunctive of εἰμί (eimí) G1510; (may, might, can, could, would, should, must, etc.; also with εἰ (ei) G1487 and its comparative, as well as with other particles) be; + appear, are, (may, might, should) be, X have, is, + pass the flower of her age, should stand, were
