Matthew 7:10

← Matthew 7:9 [words of Jesus] Matthew 7:10 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Matthew 7:11 [words of Jesus] →
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Strong's References
  • G154 — αἰτέω (aitéō, ahee-teh'-o): of uncertain derivation; to ask (in genitive case); ask, beg, call for, crave, desire, require. Compare πυνθάνομαι (pynthánomai) G4441.
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
  • G1437 — ἐάν (eán, eh-an'): from εἰ (ei) G1487 and ἄν (án) G302; a conditional particle; in case that, provided, etc.; often used in connection with other particles to denote indefiniteness or uncertainty; before, but, except, (and) if, (if) so, (what-, whither-)soever, though, when (-soever), whether (or), to whom, (who-)so(-ever). See μή (mḗ) G3361.
  • G1929 — ἐπιδίδωμι (epidídōmi, ep-ee-did'-o-mee): from ἐπί (epí) G1909 and δίδωμι (dídōmi) G1325; to give over (by hand or surrender); deliver unto, give, let (+ (her drive)), offer
  • G2486 — ἰχθύς (ichthýs, ikh-thoos'): of uncertain affinity; a fish; fish
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether; any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. • G3789 — ὄφις (óphis, of'-is): probably from ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700 (through the idea of sharpness of vision); a snake, figuratively, (as a type of sly cunning) an artful malicious person, especially Satan; serpent
