Matthew 2:19

← Matthew 2:18 Matthew 2:19 (KJV) Matthew 2:20 →
In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

Strong's References
  • G32 — ἄγγελος (ángelos, ang'-el-os): from ἀγγέλλω (angéllō) (probably derived from ἄγω (ágō) G71; compare ἀγέλη (agélē) G34) (to bring tidings); a messenger; especially an "angel"; by implication, a pastor; angel, messenger
  • G125 — Αἴγυπτος (Aígyptos, ah'-ee-goop-tos): of uncertain derivation; Ægyptus, the land of the Nile; Egypt
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G2264 — Ἡρώδης (Hērṓdēs, hay-ro'-dace): compound of ἥρως (hḗrōs) (a "hero") and εἶδος (eîdos) G1491; heroic; Herod, the name of four Jewish kings; Herod
  • G2400 — ἰδού (idoú, id-oo'): second person singular imperative middle voice of εἴδω (eídō) G1492; used as imperative lo!; behold, lo, see
  • G2501 — Ἰωσήφ (Iōsḗph, ee-o-safe'): of Hebrew origin (H3130); Joseph, the name of seven Israelites; Joseph
  • G2596 — κατά (katá, kat-ah'): a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative) with which it is joined); about, according as (to), after, against, (when they were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly, concerning, + covered, (dai-)ly, down, every, (+ far more) exceeding, X more excellent, for, from … to, godly, in(-asmuch, divers, every, -to, respect of), … by, after the manner of, + by any means, beyond (out of) measure, X mightily, more, X natural, of (up-)on (X part), out (of every), over against, (+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus, (un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. In composition it retains many of these applications, and frequently denotes opposition, distribution, or intensity.
  • G2962 — κύριος (kýrios, koo'-ree-os): from κῦρος (kŷros) (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title); God, Lord, master, Sir
  • G3677 — ὄναρ (ónar, on'-ar): of uncertain derivation; a dream; dream
  • G5053 — τελευτάω (teleutáō, tel-yoo-tah'-o): from a presumed derivative of τελέω (teléō) G5055; to finish life (by implication, of βίος (bíos) G979), i.e. expire (demise); be dead, decease, die
  • G5316 — φαίνω (phaínō, fah'-ee-no): prolongation for the base of φῶς (phōs) G5457; to lighten (shine), i.e. show (transitive or intransitive, literal or figurative); appear, seem, be seen, shine, X think

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
