Luke 6:9

← Luke 6:8 [words of Jesus] Luke 6:9 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Luke 6:10 [words of Jesus] →
But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
  • G1832 — ἔξεστι (éxesti, ex'-es-tee): third person singular present indicative of a compound of ἐκ (ek) G1537 and εἰμί (eimí) G1510; so also ἐξόν (exón) ex-on' neuter present participle of the same (with or without some form of εἰμί (eimí) G1510 expressed); impersonally, it is right (through the figurative idea of being out in public); be lawful, let, X may(-est)
  • G1905 — ἐπερωτάω (eperōtáō, ep-er-o-tah'-o): from ἐπί (epí) G1909 and ἐρωτάω (erōtáō) G2065; to ask for, i.e. inquire, seek; ask (after, questions), demand, desire, question
  • G2036 — ἔπω (épō, ep'-o): a primary verb (used only in the definite past tense, the others being borrowed from ἐρέω (eréō) G2046, ῥέω (rhéō) G4483, and φημί (phēmí) G5346); to speak or say (by word or writing); answer, bid, bring word, call, command, grant, say (on), speak, tell. Compare λέγω (légō) G3004.
  • G2228 — ἤ (ḗ, ay): a primary particle of distinction between two connected terms; disjunctive, or; comparative, than; and, but (either), (n-)either, except it be, (n-)or (else), rather, save, than, that, what, yea. Often used in connection with other particles. Compare especially ἤδη (ḗdē) G2235, ἤπερ (ḗper) G2260, ἤτοι (ḗtoi) G2273.
  • G2424 — Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs, ee-ay-sooce'): of Hebrew origin (H3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites; Jesus
  • G2554 — κακοποιέω (kakopoiéō, kak-op-oy-eh'-o): from κακοποιός (kakopoiós) G2555; to be a bad-doer, i.e. (objectively) to injure, or (genitive) to sin; do(ing) evil
  • G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly; and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore
  • G4314 — πρός (prós, pros): a strengthened form of πρό (pró) G4253; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated); about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, (where-)by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), X together, to (you) -ward, unto, with(-in). In the comparative case, it denotes essentially the same applications, namely, motion towards, accession to, or nearness at.
  • G4521 — σάββατον (sábbaton, sab'-bat-on): of Hebrew origin (H7676); the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension, a se'nnight, i.e. the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications; sabbath (day), week

  • G5101 — τίς (tís, tis): probably emphatic of τὶς (tìs) G5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or indirect questions); every man, how (much), + no(-ne, thing), what (manner, thing), where (-by, -fore, -of, -unto, - with, -withal), whether, which, who(-m, -se), why
  • G5209 — ὑμᾶς (hymâs, hoo-mas'): accusative case of ὑμεῖς (hymeîs) G5210; you (as the objective of a verb or preposition); ye, you (+ -ward), your (+ own)
  • G5590 — ψυχή (psychḗ, psoo-khay'): from ψύχω (psýchō) G5594; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from πνεῦμα (pneûma) G4151, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from ζωή (zōḗ) G2222, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew H5315, H7307 and H2416); heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you
