Judges 15:16
| ← Judges 15:15 | Judges 15:16 (KJV) | Judges 15:17 → |
|---|---|---|
And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
|
And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
|
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramathlehi.

Strong's References
- H376 — אִישׁ (ʼîysh, eesh): contracted for אֱנוֹשׁ (ʼĕnôwsh) H582 (or perhaps rather from an unused root meaning to be extant); a man as an individual or a male person; often used as an adjunct to a more definite term (and in such cases frequently not expressed in translation); also, another, any (man), a certain, [phrase] champion, consent, each, every (one), fellow, (foot-, husband-) man, (good-, great, mighty) man, he, high (degree), him (that is), husband, man(-kind), [phrase] none, one, people, person, [phrase] steward, what (man) soever, whoso(-ever), worthy. Compare אִשָּׁה (ʼishshâh) H802.
- H505 — אֶלֶף (ʼeleph, eh'-lef): prop, the same as אֶלֶף (ʼeleph) H504; hence (the ox's head being the first letter of the alphabet, and this eventually used as a numeral) a thousand; thousand.
- H559 — אָמַר (ʼâmar, aw-mar'): a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude); answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, [phrase] (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, [idiom] desire, determine, [idiom] expressly, [idiom] indeed, [idiom] intend, name, [idiom] plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), [idiom] still, [idiom] suppose, talk, tell, term, [idiom] that is, [idiom] think, use (speech), utter, [idiom] verily, [idiom] yet.
- H2543 — חֲמוֹר (chămôwr, kham-ore'): or (shortened) חֲמֹר (chămôr); from חָמַר (châmar) H2560; a male ass (from its dun red); (he) ass.
- H2565 — חֲמֹרָה (chămôrâh, kham-o-raw'): from חָמַר (châmar) H2560 (compare חֹמֶר (chômer) H2563); a heap; heap.
- H3895 — לְחִי (lᵉchîy, lekh-ee'): from an unused root meaning to be soft; the cheek (from its fleshiness); hence, the jaw-bone; cheek (bone), jaw (bone).
- H5221 — נָכָה (nâkâh, naw-kaw'): a primitive root; to strike (lightly or severely, literally or figuratively); beat, cast forth, clap, give (wounds), [idiom] go forward, [idiom] indeed, kill, make (slaughter), murderer, punish, slaughter, slay(-er, -ing), smite(-r, -ing), strike, be stricken, (give) stripes, [idiom] surely, wound.
- H8123 — שִׁמְשׁוֹן (Shimshôwn, shim-shone'): from שֶׁמֶשׁ (shemesh) H8121; sunlight; Shimshon, an Israelite; Samson.
