Romans 7:11
| ← Romans 7:10 | Romans 7:11 (KJV) | Romans 7:12 → |
|---|---|---|
And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
|
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
|
Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

Strong's References
- G266 — ἁμαρτία (hamartía, ham-ar-tee'-ah): from ἁμαρτάνω (hamartánō) G264; a sin (properly abstract); offence, sin(-ful)
- G615 — ἀποκτείνω (apokteínō, ap-ok-ti'-no): from ἀπό (apó) G575 and κτείνω (kteínō) (to slay); to kill outright; figuratively, to destroy; put to death, kill, slay
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G874 — ἀφορμή (aphormḗ, af-or-may'): from a compound of ἀπό (apó) G575 and ὁρμάω (hormáō) G3729; a starting-point, i.e. (figuratively) an opportunity; occasion
- G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles); and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet
- G1223 — διά (diá, dee-ah'): a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional); after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) … fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.
- G1785 — ἐντολή (entolḗ, en-tol-ay'): from ἐντέλλομαι (entéllomai) G1781; injunction, i.e. an authoritative prescription; commandment, precept
- G1818 — ἐξαπατάω (exapatáō, ex-ap-at-ah'-o): from ἐκ (ek) G1537 and ἀπατάω (apatáō) G538; to seduce wholly; beguile, deceive
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G2983 — λαμβάνω (lambánō, lam-ban'-o): a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is use only as an alternate in certain tenses; to take (in very many applications, literally and figuratively (properly objective or active, to get hold of; whereas δέχομαι (déchomai) G1209 is rather subjective or passive, to have offered to one; while αἱρέομαι (hairéomai) G138 is more violent, to seize or remove)); accept, + be amazed, assay, attain, bring, X when I call, catch, come on (X unto), + forget, have, hold, obtain, receive (X after), take (away, up)
- G3165 — μέ (mé, meh): a shorter (and probably original) form of ἐμέ (emé) G1691; me; I, me, my
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
