Romans 15:20
| ← Romans 15:19 | Romans 15:20 (KJV) | Romans 15:21 → |
|---|---|---|
Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
|
Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation:
|
But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand.

In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
- G2097 — εὐαγγελίζω (euangelízō, yoo-ang-ghel-id'-zo): from εὖ (eû) G2095 and ἄγγελος (ángelos) G32; to announce good news ("evangelize") especially the gospel; declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel)
- G2310 — θεμέλιος (themélios, them-el'-ee-os): from a derivative of τίθημι (títhēmi) G5087; something put down, i.e. a substruction (of a building, etc.), (literally or figuratively); foundation
- G3363 — ἵνα μή (hína mḗ, hin'-ah may): i.e. ἵνα (hína) G2443 and μή (mḗ) G3361; in order (or so) that not; albeit not, lest, that, no(-t, (-thing))
- G3618 — οἰκοδομέω (oikodoméō, oy-kod-om-eh'-o): from the same as οἰκοδομή (oikodomḗ) G3619; to be a house-builder, i.e. construct or (figuratively) confirm; (be in) build(-er, -ing, up), edify, embolden
- G3687 — ὀνομάζω (onomázō, on-om-ad'-zo): from ὄνομα (ónoma) G3686; to name, i.e. assign an appellation; by extension, to utter, mention, profess; call, name
- G3699 — ὅπου (hópou, hop'-oo): from ὅς (hós) G3739 and πού (poú) G4225; what(-ever) where, i.e. at whichever spot; in what place, where(-as, -soever), whither (+ soever)
- G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή (mḗ) G3361) adverb; no or not; + long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G2443 — ἵνα (hína, hin'-ah): probably from the same as the former part of ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438 (through the demonstrative idea; compare ὁ (ho) G3588); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result); albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to. Compare ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363.
- G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether; any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations.
