Psalms 78:53

← Psalms 78:52 Psalms 78:53 (KJV) Psalms 78:54 →
But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

Strong's References
  • H341 — אֹיֵב (ʼôyêb, o-yabe'): or (fully) אוֹיֵב (ʼôwyêb); active participle of אָיַב (ʼâyab) H340; hating; an adversary; enemy, foe.
  • H983 — בֶּטַח (beṭach, beh'takh): from בָּטַח (bâṭach) H982; properly, a place of refuge; abstract, safety, both the fact (security) and the feeling (trust); often (adverb with or without preposition) safely; assurance, boldly, (without) care(-less), confidence, hope, safe(-ly, -ty), secure, surely.
  • H3220 — יָם (yâm, yawm): from an unused root meaning to roar; a sea (as breaking in noisy surf) or large body of water; specifically (with the article), the Mediterranean Sea; sometimes a large river, or an artifical basin; locally, the west, or (rarely) the south; sea ([idiom] -faring man, (-shore)), south, west (-ern, side, -ward).
  • H3680 — כָּסָה (kâçâh, kaw-saw'): a primitive root; properly, to plump, i.e. fill up hollows; by implication, to cover (for clothing or secrecy); clad self, close, clothe, conceal, cover (self), (flee to) hide, overwhelm. Compare כָּשָׂה (kâsâh) H3780.
  • H5148 — נָחָה (nâchâh, naw-khaw'): a primitive root; to guide; by implication, to transport (into exile, or as colonists); bestow, bring, govern, guide, lead (forth), put, straiten.
  • H6342 — פָּחַד (pâchad, paw-kkad'): a primitive root; to be startled (by a sudden alarm); hence, to fear in general; be afraid, stand in awe, (be in) fear, make to shake.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H853 — אֵת (ʼêth, ayth): apparent contracted from אוֹת (ʼôwth) H226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly, self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely); (as such unrepresented in English).
  • H3808 — לֹא (lôʼ, lo): or לוֹא (lôwʼ); or לֹה (lôh); (Deuteronomy 3:11), a primitive particle; not (the simple or abs. negation); by implication, no; often used with other particles; [idiom] before, [phrase] or else, ere, [phrase] except, ig(-norant), much, less, nay, neither, never, no((-ne), -r, (-thing)), ([idiom] as though...,(can-), for) not (out of), of nought, otherwise, out of, [phrase] surely, [phrase] as truly as, [phrase] of a truth, [phrase] verily, for want, [phrase] whether, without.
