Psalms 78:51

← Psalms 78:50 Psalms 78:51 (KJV) Psalms 78:52 →
He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;
And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:
But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

  • H1060 — בְּכוֹר (bᵉkôwr, bek-ore'): from בָּכַר (bâkar) H1069; firstborn; hence, chief; eldest (son), firstborn(-ling).
  • H2526 — חָם (Châm, khawm): the same as חָם (châm) H2525; hot (from the tropical habitat); Cham, a son of Noah; also (as a patronymic) his descendants or their country; Ham.
  • H4714 — מִצְרַיִם (Mitsrayim, mits-rah'-yim): dual of מָצוֹר (mâtsôwr) H4693; Mitsrajim, i.e. Upper and Lower Egypt; Egypt, Egyptians, Mizraim.
  • H5221 — נָכָה (nâkâh, naw-kaw'): a primitive root; to strike (lightly or severely, literally or figuratively); beat, cast forth, clap, give (wounds), [idiom] go forward, [idiom] indeed, kill, make (slaughter), murderer, punish, slaughter, slay(-er, -ing), smite(-r, -ing), strike, be stricken, (give) stripes, [idiom] surely, wound.
  • H7225 — רֵאשִׁית (rêʼshîyth, ray-sheeth'): from the same as רֹאשׁ (rôʼsh) H7218; the first, in place, time, order or rank (specifically, a firstfruit); beginning, chief(-est), first(-fruits, part, time), principal thing.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H3605 — כֹּל (kôl, kole): or (Jeremiah 33:8) כּוֹל (kôwl); from כָּלַל (kâlal) H3634; properly, the whole; hence, all, any or every (in the singular only, but often in a plural sense); (in) all (manner, (ye)), altogether, any (manner), enough, every (one, place, thing), howsoever, as many as, (no-) thing, ought, whatsoever, (the) whole, whoso(-ever).
