|---|---|---|
Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
|
And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.
|
For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

- H376 — אִישׁ (ʼîysh, eesh): contracted for אֱנוֹשׁ (ʼĕnôwsh) H582 (or perhaps rather from an unused root meaning to be extant); a man as an individual or a male person; often used as an adjunct to a more definite term (and in such cases frequently not expressed in translation); also, another, any (man), a certain, [phrase] champion, consent, each, every (one), fellow, (foot-, husband-) man, (good-, great, mighty) man, he, high (degree), him (that is), husband, man(-kind), [phrase] none, one, people, person, [phrase] steward, what (man) soever, whoso(-ever), worthy. Compare אִשָּׁה (ʼishshâh) H802.
- H1368 — גִּבּוֹר (gibbôwr, ghib-bore'): or גִּבֹּר (gibbôr); (shortened) intensive from the same as גֶּבֶר (geber) H1397; powerful; by implication, warrior, tyrant; champion, chief, [idiom] excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.
- H2022 — הַר (har, har): a shortened form of הָרָר (hârâr) H2042; a mountain or range of hills (sometimes used figuratively); hill (country), mount(-ain), [idiom] promotion.
- H2865 — חָתַת (châthath, khaw-thath'): a primitive root; properly, to prostrate; hence, to break down, either (literally) by violence, or (figuratively) by confusion and fear; abolish, affright, be (make) afraid, amaze, beat down, discourage, (cause to) dismay, go down, scare, terrify.
- H3772 — כָּרַת (kârath, kaw-rath'): a primitive root; to cut (off, down or asunder); by implication, to destroy or consume; specifically, to covenant (i.e. make an alliance or bargain, originally by cutting flesh and passing between the pieces); be chewed, be con-(feder-) ate, covenant, cut (down, off), destroy, fail, feller, be freed, hew (down), make a league (covenant), [idiom] lose, perish, [idiom] utterly, [idiom] want.
- H6215 — עֵשָׂו (ʻÊsâv, ay-sawv'): apparently a form of the passive participle of עָשָׂה (ʻâsâh) H6213 in the original sense of handling; rough (i.e. sensibly felt); Esav, a son of Isaac, including his posterity; Esau.
- H6993 — קֶטֶל (qeṭel, keh'-tel): from קָטַל (qâṭal) H6991; a violent death; slaughter.
- H8487 — תֵּימָן (Têymân, tay-mawn'): or תֵּמָן (Têmân); the same as תֵּימָן (têymân) H8486; Teman, the name of two Edomites, and of the region and descendant of one of them; south, Teman.
