Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
|
But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
|
But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

Strong's References
- G303 — ἀνά (aná, an-ah'): a primary preposition and adverb; properly, up; but (by extension) used (distributively) severally, or (locally) at (etc.); and, apiece, by, each, every (man), in, through. In compounds (as a prefix) it often means (by implication) repetition, intensity, reversal, etc.
- G444 — ἄνθρωπος (ánthrōpos, anth'-ro-pos): from ἀνήρ (anḗr) G435 and ὤψ (ṓps) (the countenance; from ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700); man-faced, i.e. a human being; certain, man
- G565 — ἀπέρχομαι (apérchomai, ap-erkh'-om-ahee): from ἀπό (apó) G575 and ἔρχομαι (érchomai) G2064; to go off (i.e. depart), aside (i.e. apart) or behind (i.e. follow), literally or figuratively; come, depart, go (aside, away, back, out, … ways), pass away, be past
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
- G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
- G2064 — ἔρχομαι (érchomai, er'-khom-ahee): middle voice of a primary verb (used only in the present and imperfect tenses, the others being supplied by a kindred (middle voice) ἐλεύθομαι (eleúthomai) el-yoo'-thom-ahee, or (active) ἔλθω (élthō) el'-tho, which do not otherwise occur); to come or go (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively); accompany, appear, bring, come, enter, fall out, go, grow, X light, X next, pass, resort, be set
- G2190 — ἐχθρός (echthrós, ech-thros'): from a primary ἔχθω (échthō) (to hate); hateful (passively, odious, or actively, hostile); usually as a noun, an adversary (especially Satan); enemy, foe
- G2215 — ζιζάνιον (zizánion, dziz-an'-ee-on): of uncertain origin; darnel or false grain; tares
- G2518 — καθεύδω (katheúdō, kath-yoo'-do): from κατά (katá) G2596 and εὕδω (heúdō) (to sleep); to lie down to rest, i.e. (by implication) to fall asleep (literally or figuratively); (be a-)sleep
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G3319 — μέσος (mésos, mes'-os): from μετά (metá) G3326; middle (as an adjective or (neuter) noun); among, X before them, between, + forth, mid(-day, -night), midst, way
- G4621 — σῖτος (sîtos, see'-tos): of uncertain derivation; grain, especially wheat; corn, wheat
- G4687 — σπείρω (speírō, spi'-ro): probably strengthened from σπάω (spáō) G4685 (through the idea of extending); to scatter, i.e. sow (literally or figuratively); sow(- er), receive seed
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
