Luke 7:21

← Luke 7:20 Luke 7:21 (KJV) Luke 7:22 [words of Jesus] →
When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
  • G991 — βλέπω (blépō, blep'-o): a primary verb; to look at (literally or figuratively); behold, beware, lie, look (on, to), perceive, regard, see, sight, take heed. Compare ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai) G3700.
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G2323 — θεραπεύω (therapeúō, ther-ap-yoo'-o): from the same as θεράπων (therápōn) G2324; to wait upon menially, i.e. (figuratively) to adore (God), or (specially) to relieve (of disease); cure, heal, worship
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3148 — μάστιξ (mástix, mas'-tix): probably from the base of μασσάομαι (massáomai) G3145 (through the idea of contact); a whip (literally, the Roman flagellum for criminals; figuratively, a disease); plague, scourging
  • G3554 — νόσος (nósos, nos'-os): of uncertain affinity; a malady (rarely figuratively, of moral disability); disease, infirmity, sickness
  • G4151 — πνεῦμα (pneûma, pnyoo'-mah): from πνέω (pnéō) G4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit; ghost, life, spirit(-ual, -ually), mind. Compare ψυχή (psychḗ) G5590.

Compare πλεῖστος (pleîstos) G4118, πλείων (pleíōn) G4119.
  • G4190 — πονηρός (ponērós, pon-ay-ros'): from a derivative of πόνος (pónos) G4192; hurtful, i.e. evil (properly, in effect or influence, and thus differing from κακός (kakós) G2556, which refers rather to essential character, as well as from σαπρός (saprós) G4550, which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively, calamitous; also (passively) ill, i.e. diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, i.e. derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners; bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked(-ness). See also πονηρότερος (ponēróteros) G4191.

  • G5483 — χαρίζομαι (charízomai, khar-id'-zom-ahee): middle voice from χάρις (cháris) G5485; to grant as a favor, i.e. gratuitously, in kindness, pardon or rescue; deliver, (frankly) forgive, (freely) give, grant
