Luke 15:28

← Luke 15:27 [words of Jesus] Luke 15:28 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Luke 15:29 [words of Jesus] →
And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

Strong's References
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
  • G1525 — εἰσέρχομαι (eisérchomai, ice-er'-khom-ahee): from εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἔρχομαι (érchomai) G2064; to enter (literally or figuratively); X arise, come (in, into), enter in(-to), go in (through)
  • G1831 — ἐξέρχομαι (exérchomai, ex-er'-khom-ahee): from ἐκ (ek) G1537 and ἔρχομαι (érchomai) G2064; to issue (literally or figuratively); come (forth, out), depart (out of), escape, get out, go (abroad, away, forth, out, thence), proceed (forth), spread abroad
  • G2309 — θέλω (thélō, thel'-o): apparently strengthened from the alternate form of αἱρέομαι (hairéomai) G138; to determine (as an active option from subjective impulse; whereas βούλομαι (boúlomai) G1014 properly denotes rather a passive acquiescence in objective considerations), i.e. choose or prefer (literally or figuratively); by implication, to wish, i.e. be inclined to (sometimes adverbially, gladly); impersonally for the future tense, to be about to; by Hebraism, to delight in; desire, be disposed (forward), intend, list, love, mean, please, have rather, (be) will (have, -ling, - ling(-ly))
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3710 — ὀργίζω (orgízō, or-gid'-zo): from ὀργή (orgḗ) G3709; to provoke or enrage, i.e. (passively) become exasperated; be angry (wroth)
  • G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή (mḗ) G3361) adverb; no or not; + long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372.
  • G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly; and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore
  • G3870 — παρακαλέω (parakaléō, par-ak-al-eh'-o): from παρά (pará) G3844 and καλέω (kaléō) G2564; to call near, i.e. invite, invoke (by imploration, hortation or consolation); beseech, call for, (be of good) comfort, desire, (give) exhort(-ation), intreat, pray
  • G3962 — πατήρ (patḗr, pat-ayr'): apparently a primary word; a "father" (literally or figuratively, near or more remote); father, parent

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
