John 18:12

← John 18:11 [words of Jesus] John 18:12 (KJV) John 18:13 →
Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

Strong's References
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
  • G1210 — δέω (déō, deh'-o): a primary verb; to bind (in various applications, literally or figuratively); bind, be in bonds, knit, tie, wind. See also δεῖ (deî) G1163, δέομαι (déomai) G1189.
  • G2424 — Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs, ee-ay-sooce'): of Hebrew origin (H3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites; Jesus
  • G2453 — Ἰουδαῖος (Ioudaîos, ee-oo-dah'-yos): from Ἰουδά (Ioudá) G2448 (in the sense of Ἰούδας (Ioúdas) G2455 as a country); Judæan, i.e. belonging to Jehudah; Jew(-ess), of Judæa
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly; and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore
  • G4686 — σπεῖρα (speîra, spi'-rah): of immediate Latin origin, but ultimately a derivative of αἱρέομαι (hairéomai) G138 in the sense of its cognate εἱλίσσω (heilíssō) G1507; a coil (spira, "spire"), i.e. (figuratively) a mass of men (a Roman military cohort; also (by analogy) a squad of Levitical janitors); band
  • G4815 — συλλαμβάνω (syllambánō, sool-lam-ban'-o): from σύν (sýn) G4862 and λαμβάνω (lambánō) G2983; to clasp, i.e. seize (arrest, capture); specially, to conceive (literally or figuratively); by implication, to aid; catch, conceive, help, take
  • G5257 — ὑπηρέτης (hypērétēs, hoop-ay-ret'-ace): from ὑπό (hypó) G5259 and a derivative of ἐρέσσω (eréssō) (to row); an under-oarsman, i.e. (generally) subordinate (assistant, sexton, constable); minister, officer, servant
  • G5506 — χιλίαρχος (chilíarchos, khil-ee'-ar-khos): from χίλιοι (chílioi) G5507 and ἄρχω (árchō) G757; the commander of a thousand soldiers ("chiliarch"; i.e. colonel); (chief, high) captain

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
