← Romans 9:11 Romans 9:12 (KJV) Romans 9:13 →
(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

Strong's References
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
  • G1398 — δουλεύω (douleúō, dool-yoo'-o): from δοῦλος (doûlos) G1401; to be a slave to (literal or figurative, involuntary or voluntary); be in bondage, (do) serve(-ice)
  • G1640 — ἐλάσσων (elássōn, el-as'-sone): comparative of the same as ἐλάχιστος (eláchistos) G1646; smaller (in size, quantity, age or quality); less, under, worse, younger
  • G3187 — μείζων (meízōn, mide'-zone): irregular comparative of μέγας (mégas) G3173; larger (literally or figuratively, specially, in age); elder, greater(-est), more
  • G3754 — ὅτι (hóti, hot'-ee): neuter of ὅστις (hóstis) G3748 as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because; as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why
  • G4483 — ῥέω (rhéō, hreh'-o): perhaps akin (or identical) with ῥέω (rhéō) G4482 (through the idea of pouring forth); to utter, i.e. speak or say; command, make, say, speak (of). Compare λέγω (légō) G3004.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
