Mark 9:46
| ← Mark 9:45 [words of Jesus] | Mark 9:46 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | Mark 9:47 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
|
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
|
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

Strong's References
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G3699 — ὅπου (hópou, hop'-oo): from ὅς (hós) G3739 and πού (poú) G4225; what(-ever) where, i.e. at whichever spot; in what place, where(-as, -soever), whither (+ soever)
- G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή (mḗ) G3361) adverb; no or not; + long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372.
- G4442 — πῦρ (pŷr, poor): a primary word; "fire" (literally or figuratively, specially, lightning); fiery, fire
- G4570 — σβέννυμι (sbénnymi, sben'-noo-mee): a prolonged form of an apparently primary verb; to extinguish (literally or figuratively); go out, quench
- G4663 — σκώληξ (skṓlēx, sko'-lakes): of uncertain derivation; a grub, maggot or earth-worm; worm
- G5053 — τελευτάω (teleutáō, tel-yoo-tah'-o): from a presumed derivative of τελέω (teléō) G5055; to finish life (by implication, of βίος (bíos) G979), i.e. expire (demise); be dead, decease, die
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
