John 16:5

← John 16:4 [words of Jesus] John 16:5 (KJV) [words of Jesus] John 16:6 [words of Jesus] →
But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

Strong's References
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
  • G1537 — ἐκ (ek, ek): a primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence action or motion proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct or remote); after, among, X are, at, betwixt(-yond), by (the means of), exceedingly, (+ abundantly above), for(- th), from (among, forth, up), + grudgingly, + heartily, X heavenly, X hereby, + very highly, in, …ly, (because, by reason) of, off (from), on, out among (from, of), over, since, X thenceforth, through, X unto, X vehemently, with(-out). Often used in composition, with the same general import; often of completion.
  • G2065 — ἐρωτάω (erōtáō, er-o-tah'-o): apparently from ἐρέω (eréō) G2046 (compare ἐρευνάω (ereunáō) G2045); to interrogate; by implication, to request; ask, beseech, desire, intreat, pray. Compare πυνθάνομαι (pynthánomai) G4441.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3165 — μέ (mé, meh): a shorter (and probably original) form of ἐμέ (emé) G1691; me; I, me, my
  • G3568 — νῦν (nŷn, noon): a primary particle of present time; "now" (as adverb of date, a transition or emphasis); also as noun or adjective present or immediate; henceforth, + hereafter, of late, soon, present, this (time). See also τανῦν (tanŷn) G3569, νυνί (nyní) G3570.
  • G3762 — οὐδείς (oudeís, oo-dice'): from οὐδέ (oudé) G3761 and εἷς (heîs) G1520; not even one (man, woman or thing), i.e. none, nobody, nothing; any (man), aught, man, neither any (thing), never (man), no (man), none (+ of these things), not (any, at all, -thing), nought
  • G3992 — πέμπω (pémpō, pem'-po): apparently a primary verb; to dispatch (from the subjective view or point of departure, whereas ἵημι (híēmi) (as a stronger form of εἶμι (eîmi)) refers rather to the objective point or terminus ad quem, and στέλλω (stéllō) G4724 denotes properly, the orderly motion involved), especially on a temporary errand; also to transmit, bestow, or wield; send, thrust in
  • G4226 — ποῦ (poû, poo): genitive case of an interrogative pronoun πός (pós) (what) otherwise obsolete (perhaps the same as πού (poú) G4225 used with the rising slide of inquiry); as adverb of place; at (by implication, to) what locality; where, whither
  • G4314 — πρός (prós, pros): a strengthened form of πρό (pró) G4253; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated); about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, (where-)by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), X together, to (you) -ward, unto, with(-in). In the comparative case, it denotes essentially the same applications, namely, motion towards, accession to, or nearness at.
  • G5216 — ὑμῶν (hymōn, hoo-mone'): genitive case of ὑμεῖς (hymeîs) G5210; of (from or concerning) you; ye, you, your (own, -selves)
  • G5217 — ὑπάγω (hypágō, hoop-ag'-o): from ὑπό (hypó) G5259 and ἄγω (ágō) G71; to lead (oneself) under, i.e. withdraw or retire (as if sinking out of sight), literally or figuratively; depart, get hence, go (a-)way

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
