← Job 17:14 Job 17:15 (KJV) Job 17:16 →
I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

Strong's References
  • H645 — אֵפוֹ (ʼêphôw, ay-fo'): or אֵפוֹא (ʼêphôwʼ); from פֹּה (pôh) H6311; strictly a demonstrative particle, here; but used of time, now or then; here, now, where?
  • H7789 — שׁוּר (shûwr, shoor): a primitive root (identical with שׁוּר (shûwr) H7788 through the idea of going round for inspection); to spy out, i.e. (generally) survey, (for evil) lurk for, (for good) care for; behold, lay wait, look, observe, perceive, regard, see.
  • H8615 — תִּקְוָה (tiqvâh, tik-vaw'): from קָוָה (qâvâh) H6960; (compare קָוֶה (qâveh) H6961); literally a cord (as an attachment); figuratively, expectancy; expectation(-ted), hope, live, thing that I long for.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H346 — אַיֵּה (ʼayêh, ah-yay'): prolonged from אַי (ʼay) H335; where?; where.
  • H4310 — מִי (mîy, me): an interrogative pronoun of persons, as מָה (mâh) H4100 is of things; who? (occasionally, by a peculiar idiom, of things); also (indefinitely) whoever; often used in oblique construction with prefix or suffix; any (man), [idiom] he, [idiom] him, [phrase] O that! what, which, who(-m, -se, -soever), [phrase] would to God.
