2 Chronicles 26:9
| ← 2 Chronicles 26:8 | 2 Chronicles 26:9 (KJV) | 2 Chronicles 26:10 → |
|---|---|---|
And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
|
Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
|
Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.

- H3389 — יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִם (Yᵉrûwshâlaim, yer-oo-shaw-lah'-im): rarely יְרוּשָׁלַיִם (Yᵉrûwshâlayim); a dual (in allusion to its two main hills (the true pointing, at least of the former reading, seems to be that of יְרוּשָׁלֵם (Yᵉrûwshâlêm) H3390)); probably from (the passive participle of) יָרָה (yârâh) H3384 and שָׁלַם (shâlam) H7999; founded peaceful; Jerushalaim or Jerushalem, the capital city of Palestine; Jerusalem.
- H4026 — מִגְדָּל (migdâl, mig-dawl'): also (in plural) feminine מִגְדָּלָה (migdâlâh); from גָּדַל (gâdal) H1431; a tower (from its size or height); by analogy, a rostrum; figuratively, a (pyramidal) bed of flowers; castle, flower, tower. Compare the names following.

- H5818 — עֻזִּיָּה (ʻUzzîyâh, ooz-zee-yaw'): or עֻזִּיָּהוּ (ʻUzzîyâhûw); from עֹז (ʻôz) H5797 and יָהּ (Yâhh) H3050; strength of Jah; Uzzijah, the name of five Israelites; Uzziah.

- H8179 — שַׁעַר (shaʻar, shah'-ar): from שָׁעַר (shâʻar) H8176 in its original sense; an opening, i.e. door or gate; city, door, gate, port ([idiom] -er).
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- H5921 — עַל (ʻal, al): properly, the same as עַל (ʻal) H5920 used as a preposition (in the singular or plural often with prefix, or as conjunction with a particle following); above, over, upon, or against (yet always in this last relation with a downward aspect) in a great variety of applications; above, according to(-ly), after, (as) against, among, and, [idiom] as, at, because of, beside (the rest of), between, beyond the time, [idiom] both and, by (reason of), [idiom] had the charge of, concerning for, in (that), (forth, out) of, (from) (off), (up-) on, over, than, through(-out), to, touching, [idiom] with.
