Mark 3:4
| ← Mark 3:3 [words of Jesus] | Mark 3:4 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | Mark 3:5 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
|
And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
|
And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Strong's References
- G15 — ἀγαθοποιέω (agathopoiéō, ag-ath-op-oy-eh'-o): from ἀγαθοποιός (agathopoiós) G17; to be a well-doer (as a favor or a duty); (when) do good (well)
- G615 — ἀποκτείνω (apokteínō, ap-ok-ti'-no): from ἀπό (apó) G575 and κτείνω (kteínō) (to slay); to kill outright; figuratively, to destroy; put to death, kill, slay
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
- G1832 — ἔξεστι (éxesti, ex'-es-tee): third person singular present indicative of a compound of ἐκ (ek) G1537 and εἰμί (eimí) G1510; so also ἐξόν (exón) ex-on' neuter present participle of the same (with or without some form of εἰμί (eimí) G1510 expressed); impersonally, it is right (through the figurative idea of being out in public); be lawful, let, X may(-est)
- G2228 — ἤ (ḗ, ay): a primary particle of distinction between two connected terms; disjunctive, or; comparative, than; and, but (either), (n-)either, except it be, (n-)or (else), rather, save, than, that, what, yea. Often used in connection with other particles. Compare especially ἤδη (ḗdē) G2235, ἤπερ (ḗper) G2260, ἤτοι (ḗtoi) G2273.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
- G2554 — κακοποιέω (kakopoiéō, kak-op-oy-eh'-o): from κακοποιός (kakopoiós) G2555; to be a bad-doer, i.e. (objectively) to injure, or (genitive) to sin; do(ing) evil
- G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω (épō) G2036 and φημί (phēmí) G5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω (rhéō) G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω (laléō) G2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean; ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter
- G4521 — σάββατον (sábbaton, sab'-bat-on): of Hebrew origin (H7676); the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension, a se'nnight, i.e. the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications; sabbath (day), week
- G4623 — σιωπάω (siōpáō, see-o-pah'-o): from σιωπή (siōpḗ) (silence, i.e. a hush; properly, muteness, i.e. involuntary stillness, or inability to speak; and thus differing from σιγή (sigḗ) G4602, which is rather a voluntary refusal or indisposition to speak, although the terms are often used synonymously); to be dumb (but not deaf also, like 2974 properly); figuratively, to be calm (as quiet water); dumb, (hold) peace
- G4982 — σώζω (sṓzō, sode'-zo): from a primary σῶς (sōs) (contraction for obsolete σάος (sáos), "safe"); to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively); heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole
- G5590 — ψυχή (psychḗ, psoo-khay'): from ψύχω (psýchō) G5594; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from πνεῦμα (pneûma) G4151, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from ζωή (zōḗ) G2222, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew H5315, H7307 and H2416); heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
