Luke 20:29

← Luke 20:28 Luke 20:29 (KJV) Luke 20:30 →
Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

Strong's References
  • G80 — ἀδελφός (adelphós, ad-el-fos'): from Α (A) G1 (as a connective particle) and δελφύς (delphýs) (the womb); a brother (literally or figuratively) near or remote (much like Α (A) G1); brother
  • G599 — ἀποθνήσκω (apothnḗskō, ap-oth-nace'-ko): from ἀπό (apó) G575 and θνήσκω (thnḗskō) G2348; to die off (literally or figuratively); be dead, death, die, lie a-dying, be slain (X with)
  • G815 — ἄτεκνος (áteknos, at'-ek-nos): from Α (A) G1 (as a negative particle) and τέκνον (téknon) G5043; childless; childless, without children
  • G1135 — γυνή (gynḗ, goo-nay'): probably from the base of γίνομαι (gínomai) G1096; a woman; specially, a wife; wife, woman
  • G2033 — ἑπτά (heptá, hep-tah'): a primary number; seven; seven
  • G2258 — ἦν (ēn, ane): imperfect of εἰμί (eimí) G1510; I (thou, etc.) was (wast or were); + agree, be, X have (+ charge of), hold, use, was(-t), were
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G2983 — λαμβάνω (lambánō, lam-ban'-o): a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is use only as an alternate in certain tenses; to take (in very many applications, literally and figuratively (properly objective or active, to get hold of; whereas δέχομαι (déchomai) G1209 is rather subjective or passive, to have offered to one; while αἱρέομαι (hairéomai) G138 is more violent, to seize or remove)); accept, + be amazed, assay, attain, bring, X when I call, catch, come on (X unto), + forget, have, hold, obtain, receive (X after), take (away, up)
  • G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly; and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore
  • G4413 — πρῶτος (prōtos, pro'-tos): contracted superlative of πρό (pró) G4253; foremost (in time, place, order or importance); before, beginning, best, chief(-est), first (of all), former

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
