Luke 12:22

← Luke 12:21 [words of Jesus] Luke 12:22 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Luke 12:23 [words of Jesus] →
So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

Strong's References
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. In composition it retains the same general importance.
  • G1746 — ἐνδύω (endýō, en-doo'-o): from ἐν (en) G1722 and δύνω (dýnō) G1416 (in the sense of sinking into a garment); to invest with clothing (literally or figuratively); array, clothe (with), endue, have (put) on
  • G2036 — ἔπω (épō, ep'-o): a primary verb (used only in the definite past tense, the others being borrowed from ἐρέω (eréō) G2046, ῥέω (rhéō) G4483, and φημί (phēmí) G5346); to speak or say (by word or writing); answer, bid, bring word, call, command, grant, say (on), speak, tell. Compare λέγω (légō) G3004.
  • G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω (épō) G2036 and φημί (phēmí) G5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω (rhéō) G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω (laléō) G2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean; ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter
  • G3101 — μαθητής (mathētḗs, math-ay-tes'): from μανθάνω (manthánō) G3129; a learner, i.e. pupil; disciple

  • G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ (ou) G3756 expects an affirmative one)) whether; any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή (eàn mḗ) G3362, ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363, οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372, μηκύνω (mēkýnō) G3373, μήν (mḗn) G3375, μὴ οὐκ (mḕ ouk) G3378.
  • G3366 — μηδέ (mēdé, may-deh'): from μή (mḗ) G3361 and δέ (dé) G1161; but not, not even; in a continued negation, nor; neither, nor (yet), (no) not (once, so much as)
  • G4314 — πρός (prós, pros): a strengthened form of πρό (pró) G4253; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated); about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, (where-)by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), X together, to (you) -ward, unto, with(-in). In the comparative case, it denotes essentially the same applications, namely, motion towards, accession to, or nearness at.
