John 11:40
| ← John 11:39 [words of Jesus] | John 11:40 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | John 11:41 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
|
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
|
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

Strong's References
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1391 — δόξα (dóxa, dox'-ah): from the base of δοκέω (dokéō) G1380; glory (as very apparent), in a wide application (literal or figurative, objective or subjective); dignity, glory(-ious), honour, praise, worship
- G1437 — ἐάν (eán, eh-an'): from εἰ (ei) G1487 and ἄν (án) G302; a conditional particle; in case that, provided, etc.; often used in connection with other particles to denote indefiniteness or uncertainty; before, but, except, (and) if, (if) so, (what-, whither-)soever, though, when (-soever), whether (or), to whom, (who-)so(-ever). See μή (mḗ) G3361.
- G2036 — ἔπω (épō, ep'-o): a primary verb (used only in the definite past tense, the others being borrowed from ἐρέω (eréō) G2046, ῥέω (rhéō) G4483, and φημί (phēmí) G5346); to speak or say (by word or writing); answer, bid, bring word, call, command, grant, say (on), speak, tell. Compare λέγω (légō) G3004.
- G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ (ho) G3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very; X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward)
- G2424 — Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs, ee-ay-sooce'): of Hebrew origin (H3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites; Jesus
- G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω (épō) G2036 and φημί (phēmí) G5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω (rhéō) G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω (laléō) G2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean; ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter
- G3700 — ὀπτάνομαι (optánomai, op-tan'-om-ahee): a (middle voice) prolonged form of the primary (middle voice) ὄπτομαι (óptomai) op'-tom-ahee; which is used for it in certain tenses; and both as alternate of ὁράω (horáō) G3708; to gaze (i.e. with wide-open eyes, as at something remarkable; and thus differing from βλέπω (blépō) G991, which denotes simply voluntary observation; and from εἴδω (eídō) G1492, which expresses merely mechanical, passive or casual vision; while θεάομαι (theáomai) G2300, and still more emphatically its intensive θεωρέω (theōréō) G2334, signifies an earnest but more continued inspection; and σκοπέω (skopéō) G4648 a watching from a distance); appear, look, see, shew self
- G3754 — ὅτι (hóti, hot'-ee): neuter of ὅστις (hóstis) G3748 as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because; as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why
- G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή (mḗ) G3361) adverb; no or not; + long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή (ou mḗ) G3364, μῆκος (mēkos) G3372.
- G4100 — πιστεύω (pisteúō, pist-yoo'-o): from πίστις (pístis) G4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust (especially one's spiritual well-being to Christ); believe(-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with
- G4671 — σοί (soí, soy): dative case of σύ (sý) G4771; to thee; thee, thine own, thou, thy
